Subnautica on Mars
It's Subnautica on Mars. The start is a bit tough, but once you get the basics sorted, you're all good.

Instant Favourite
Instantly became one of my all time top 5 games alongside things like Witcher 3, Skyrim, AC2 and Alpha Centaurai. I play games for the story/experience and not the challenge so, for me, the great thing about PC is it's ability to make the mundane seem like an achievement. The first time the sky went blue I went outside and looked at it. The first time it rained I went out and stood in it. And I jumped in the first puddle I saw. Because there's no time pressure in the game you get to enjoy the fruits of your labour. Too often in these types of games just as you get everything up and running nicely the scenario is over and you start again somewhere else. PC isn't like that. You start on a barren plant and turn it into a habitable one - your way. There is a storyline but it's not a major feature of the game and can be ignored altogther if you choose. Is it perfect? Very nearly. Bug free. Quick loading. Stable - Has the odd crash but nothing to worry about. All it needs is a map randomiser. There is a kind of randomiser but I'm thinking like SMACs type. That would make it endlessly replayable and in my view perfect. And if that cost the same as the original game I'd happily pay for it.

Planet crafter
I've played this since early release, and now playing through full version. Planet crafter is an interesting survival builder game. You've landed on a dead planet as some sort of punishment and have to turn it into a liveable world. Fair enough. Leave pod, wander round a little. Die. Hrm. Leave pod, run about gather a few bits, run back and breathe... Leave pod, what's that noise. Smashed to pieces by a meteor hitting me... Luckily dying just drops some of your stuff in a crate so its not really a problem. The meteors though are a neat touch to replenish (and later on obtain) resources. On the horizon was a huge spaceship - so I built a little chain of survival rooms across to it, and decided to build my first base clinging to the cliff underneath it. Good and bad choice. Good I didn't get flooded, bad its a prime meteor landing site so the door often got blocked and I couldn't get out! Things I really like about Planet Crafter: A) Resource needs are well balanced. Initially you need a lot of iron, then aluminium, then food! There's always something you don't quite have enough of to build the next thing on your list. B) Wow factor. I made that! The first time it rained, the lakes, the trees, wait was that a bee that flew by... As the planet evolves there's always something new - even the landscape changes. C) It rewards the explorer. If you like climbing the mountain, or searching a cave you will find hidden rewards, including a glimpse of others on the planet. D) Its just kinda cool to chill out in. Floating about over your world, moving from (in my latest playthough) my home in the air facing the waterfall surrounded by house plants, to the industrial aluminum mine, to the impossible house on top of the volcano! E) You can customise the play experience to shape the game about you.

Coming online...now!
I'm impressed with the strong experience while in early access. I've deeply enjoyed this game so far. It nails the snowballing joy of slowly building a world up from nothing while keeping the challenge present at each step. It is rewarding to see the planet coming alive in response to your work, and the changes really do reshape the world, and sometimes can even threaten your own work. Your experience changes radically as your technology and the world both evolve - creating new experiences even in places you thought you already knew well and thought you had fully explored. The game does a great job making different spaces feel unique to occupy. There are even some experiences I had in the game that suddenly changed everything for me in a good, brain-bending way. Currently there is also a great demo. I played the demo and went right out and bought the full game. Try it! I was even able to continue my demo save in the full game.
