What a great FPS/RPG with a twist.
Playing the game, enjoying the universe reminds me of Bioshock. The Art Noir genre, twistet characters an dluster worlds was a nice experience compared to other well polished games. Definitely worth a play through.

Its good.
I played on xbox and I must say its not bad. Its entertaining. Maybe it doesnt have deep of fallout 1 & 2 but its still pretty good. Its more of fps with richer story than anything else, but it could be immersive. I really enjoyed story and characters. All in all its a good game, not best, but good. Similarities to New Vegas are there and You cannot shake the feeling thats it is more dynamic version of it, although the feeling is very different. You want to consider setting diffuculty a little higher. Combat are very easy. Even on hard I had problems with maybe one or two fights.

Excellent game
Its a great rpg! Its not fallout, but since i like fable 2 and its linear/open world I found this game great... Its story is well written and there are a lot of upgrades if you get this don't expect fallout or skyrim but its definitely not linear

Very enjoyable sci-fi opera
The Outer Worlds is quite in line with Fallout 3 and 4 in the level of RPG and balance between dialogue and combat. If you come in expecting that kind of RPG there's much to enjoy here. It's kind of a sci-fi opera in the style of early sci-fi movies and magazines/comics, with larger than life people, environments and wildlife, and a sarcastic and fun tone throughout. Sure, it's not the deepest RPG in terms of dialogue choices, often mostly a flavor choice. But just as often you can affect important outcome by your choices, or by having specific skills high enough to pass skill checks. You can also influence the game by e.g. choosing who to side with in a conflict. Also, your play-style can affect the game a lot. You can spec up to be a tanky melee character, or more of a "rogue/thief" type and sneak around a lot of encounters, or focus on boosting your companions while you mostly stand back from combat. You really want to bring the companions along, they are helpful and unobtrusive. They also sometimes add flavor and background info with comments about places, people or dialogue, or have a bit of banter between them. Graphics I enjoyed a lot. The coloring took slightly getting used to, but then it really help make the environments seem other-worldly. The detail and textures are very good, and the lighting often impressive. Items in the game like weapons, armor, and consumables are well done with small intricate details, and a used look that make them seem part of the world. There's also amusing descriptive text for many items. P.S. This tip I think is important to the game story: When you get to the space station Groundbreaker you'll meet Udom Bedford who represents The Board. Even if you want to follow what seem to be the "obvious" story line and oppose the oppressive Board, you want to play along and pretend you want to turn in Phineas Welles. This will open up a whole story line, and much later in the game you can decide who you actually want to side with.

Bad RPG, bad shooter
I should've read the reviews before buying this one, I'll just add mine in hope of saving someone from wasting time on this game. If you played any RPG before this game, you probably played a better game then. You won't find an ounce of original content in this game, every single quest has been seen in some game before. The writing is really bad with unlikeable characters, at times this game reminded me of Mass Effect but it quickly reminded me that the companions in this game have laughably terrible personalities and motivations compared to Mass Effect. Its not a good shooter either, all human NPCs behave the same with little response to your shots, when you hit an enemy you get those damage numbers pop out of them; similiar to Borderlands, but thats about where the similiarities end. If you compare the weapon and enemy variety to Borderlands, it has about 3/4 much more content. The perks are also very boring. Very lazy game, I bought it mainly to see if theres anything new in recent release (2019) but I found it to be much worse than games released 10 years ago.
