The very longest journey

Having been used to URU (on and off line) I found the graphics a little crude at times. But in general, I enjoyed this game. However, some of the dialogues are incredibly lengthy, which makes the journey longer than need be. Not only are some lengthy, they are unbelievably boring (eg, in the Enclave, with Yerrin). But one has to be careful in using ESC with the dialogues: if you miss something critical, April doesn't hear it or answer it, and you can be stuffed later on (eg, in the police station witjh the with the union-blighted repair men: I went round the loop a few times). The trick is to save frequently or you'll be restarting. I enjoyed April's appearance and saucy feminist behaviour. The ending seemed a bit weak, leaving me wondering what happened to so and so (eg, Emma and Micky). I would have thought the epilogue could have been much better. Very anticlimatic after such a great journey. Is there an upcoming seguel?

A true adventure classic

Ragnar Tørnquist's The Longest Journey is one of those games you never heard of that you simply must play. As an adventure game, it follows the general adventure formula of find this, use with that etc, but if you are an adventure game fan this won't be a problem. The inventory and user interface are very easy to use, the voice acting is great, and the story is unique and, dare I say, inspired. And, as other reviewers have pointed out, it is a long game. Not because of puzzle difficulty, but sheer LENGTH. This is a fat novel in game form and trust me, you will want to play it again. I strongly suggest you check it out, and if you love it like I did, try and find a copy of the sequel "Dreamfall". It isn't quite an adventure game, and isn't quite an action game, and does suffer from some cross-genre confusion, but the story is simply fantastic. You won't be disappointed!

Great, but a little dated

TLJ is by far one of the best adventure games created. Compelling characters, a great sense of humour, moments of breaking the fourth wall - it's got everything you need. Many of the puzzles were easy enough, but some did require a very odd way of thinking or, if you're weak-willed, the use of a guide. That said, it's a little dated now. The pre-rendered backdrops are still stunning, but the text and rendered stuff can be a little hard on the eye. The sound also seems to pop and click a little for me, but not once has it affected my enjoyment of the game. If you need an adventure game with charm, character and a few brain teasers, TLJ is that game.

Good graphic aventure.

I'm not really that much in this genre but I get caught by this title. The plot is interesting. The voice acting is GREAT. The game is well designed. By well designed I mean you can't be put in a situation where you take a wrong decision (as waisting an item) and then be forced to load and old savegame. The level of challenge is apropiate, and if you ever get stuck, GOG provides you a very good walkthrough. Some dialogs get deep into NPCs private lifes, letting you know stuff absolutely useless. Some people may like this kind stuff but for me is a pain. The medicine for that pain es the ESC key. It allows you to skip full "pages" of the dialog. Any way, all the dialogs are logged. So, if you wanna read something you skipped, you can go to the log and read it. The graphics hasn't aged well and there are not a mod out there to fix that. If graphics are important to you, better search the game in youtube before get the game. After played a while in my desktop pc y switch to my netbook. In a 10 inches display it looks ok.
