Robert is a novice, a bit clueless, but with a heart of gold. He lives a peaceful life as a court musician in Asposia's largest wind monastery. Contrary to the laws of physics, Asposia is an enormous, hollow space surrounded by an infinite expanse of earth. The world's air is provided through three wind fountains, but as one wind fountain after the other petered out and the wind gods came to Asposia, all of the sudden Robert found him in the middle of a whirlwind.
Together with the help of the mysterious thief Laura, his best intentions and no clue whatsoever, Robert sets off on his adventure to discover the secret of the wind's disappearance. Will the young adventurer be able to save his world? And what are Laura´s secret intentions…?

A fantastic story and excellent characterization is brought down by uninspired puzzles, poor presentation, lack of interaction and rushed production values. Really falls apart towards the end and feels somewhat unfinished and underdeveloped. If you like good stories and don't mind poor payoffs and inconsistent presentation then this is for you, otherwise don't bother.
WAY better than usual, in point of fact. What's more, this game is NOT misogynistic. I don't know where anyone came up with that idea. The girl in the story is OBVIOUSLY way smarter and more practical than the guy with the whistle nose to start with - AND HE IS CONSTANTLY SAYING SO. My particularly "liberated" mother doesn't find this game objectionable, and she is definitely observant/aware enough of such issues to tell. When asked, she was not only incredulous that anyone had labeled this "misogynistic", it is her stated opinion that only a feminazi's feminazi (amongst REAL feminazis, which is a vanishingly small population to begin with regardless of Rush Limbaugh's opinion on the matter) would find it so. Honestly, the real brains in this game belong to the woman and the guy is pretty much of a dumb bell, though a nice, pleasant, KINDLY dumb bell. Get real. IT'S A GAME. Expend your energies on things like professional women (and I DON'T mean street walkers) on TV portrayed with their boobs falling out at the office and nonsense like over endowed scantily clad female warriors who ought to be a mass of scars or, more likely, DEAD, if they actually went into battle wearing only a chain mail bikini. There's nothing in this vein to see here. Move along now. (Have wishlisted the sequel).
What a dreadful game. How it got such effusive reviews, I have no idea, because there's no enthusiasm or life in the characters of the game -- the voice acting is so dull that I found myself drifting off to sleep, whilst solving the uninteresting (and uninterestingly assigned) puzzles.
The voice performance for the main character is so dreary that you lose interest in interacting with him, and the other characters' lines are read monotonously by rote, so what start out as not-very-funny jokes become annoying, rather than being even mildly amusing.
Did these people never play DOTT, Sam & Max, or any of the other Scumm games that defined the genre and style that they appear to be trying to emulate?
It would seem not, because they've produced a game that will give me more pleasure in forgetting all about it, than playing it did. They should be forced to play gems like Outcast, 24/7 for a few months, to learn how to make characters talk and behave.
I liked the worldbuilding and kept playing for that alone.
The puzzles were sometimes rewarding, but all too often I found myself trying every interactable on every other interactable. Too many puzzles demanded a sequence of actions that made no sense, and unlike Day of the Tentacle-type puzzles, random experimentation was not rewarded. If you take objects which are part of the same puzzle and combine them incorrectly the game will sort of give you hints, and if you combine anything else the game will suggest that you're combining stuff randomly, which would be funnier if I didn't feel so compelled for so much of the game to combine stuff randomly.
The story also heavily relies on some weird straight people are awful to each other stuff, and ends on a creepy rapey note in which the main dude character kisses the main lady character while she's turned into stone, and once de-stoned she hits him for it, and he says it was worth it so he could kiss her, so that's a few things.
Basically, three stars for some great worldbuilding, some good puzzles, and a lot of potential. I hope the game designers can put their creativity toward something that is better to women.
The Inner World is indeed a charming, funny game. The humor is silly, the puzzles are likewise a little off-the-wall in a good way, and the world is immersive with fully fleshed out characters. So it's a real shame that the game is so woman hating. It's a complete turn off, and you can't ignore it because it's pretty central to the plot. The one major female character's whole reason to exist seems to be a love-hate object for the main character. The operating assumption of this game is that all women are out to exploit men for ulterior motives, and that they are fundamentally catty and unpleasant; at the end of the day, however, they just want to be loved. Stay away.
