The Elder Scrolls: Arena

For its time, this was one of the most advanced games you could play. I remember watching my mom and dad play this and eventually I did too. Dungeons are creepy and dark, just how you'd imagine them! If you play this, keep in mind its age and you'll have a good time!

Best game ever when it was released .

This game gave me an irrational fear of Minotaurs hunting me down, mooing in my ear as they hack away my limbs. 11/10 - It just works

Ma première partie s’est faite en tant que guerrier. Un peu basique, c’est sûr, mais c’est toujours un choix judicieux pour aborder ce type de jeu. Cependant, il est déjà évident que ce jeu là trouve son intérêt dans les jeteurs de sorts, avec le Spellmaker et ce qu’il offre. A refaire donc sous d’autres traits. Quoi qu’il en soit, c’est en tant que guerrier que j’ai abordé ce jeu, et aucun regret à formuler. Le personnage monte en niveau de manière satisfaisante, et pour peu que l’on prenne le temps de faire les quêtes liées aux artefacts spéciaux, on peu rapidement atteindre un niveau fort agréable. Je n’ai pas tout visité (qui le peut ? 8 millions de km², réellement !) mais je trouve que ce jeu signe d’entrée les grandes qualités de ses suites. Immersif et agréable, c’est un plaisir d’y jouer, avec tout de même un minimum de patience et de pistes aussi, pour éviter de tourner en rond trop longtemps. Le jeu de rôle par excellence, à faire et refaire, malgré son âge et ses graphismes.

Let me start with that it did not age well, probably it was the nostalgia that pulled me back to it. It has a simple storyline for the main quest with lots and lots of grinding. There are lots of side quests but they have no depth: simple fetch/escort/kill missions. The game has so many options that were new at the time, but are done better or more meaningfully since. You could pickpocket, steal, haggle, rent a room, visit mages guild or churches. There are many magic spells for the spellcasters, and magic potions or items for the non-magic users. These are extremely important as different situations or monsters require different sets of defensive/offensive magic. It is a piece of history, the game that started the Elder Scrolls. I would only suggest to retro gaming fanatics, others should look for the later episodes in the series or wait for the OpenTESArena.
