Mick Carter's been drifting a while now- moving from job to job, never staying one place long. Jumping a box-car to his old home town, he witnesses a violent murder, is pursued by hi-tech soldiers, thrown in a reservoir and drowned.
And that's just the start of Mick's problems.

Follow Mick as he's sucked headfirst into a lunatic web of shadowy corporations, murder, and the thousand-year obsession of a madman.
The Drifter is our take on a classic 2d point and click adventure, with the brake-lines cut. The focus is on fast-paced storytelling, with puzzle-solving being the glue that ties it together. Mick's a practical guy, and so puzzles are down-to-earth too, designed to be unobtrusive, and give an investigative feel.
We're keeping the pacing quick and lean, you'll never be wandering around lost or confused- Mick is propelled through the story at a good clip, from one situation to another, with barely a moment to catch his breath. One minute you'll be crafting a Molotov cocktail from a bottle of over-proof rum, the next interrogating a crooked neurosurgeon before swinging from a high-rise window by a fraying extension lead.

Whoa, coolest game of the last few years
And nothing more to add, really. Story theme is not that original, but the way it moves forward so dynamically surely is, and makes it up for it. Loved it!

Fantastic Indie P&C
In The Drifter you'll play as Mick Carter; the homeless person the plot revolves around. Because the story is excellent and full of twists and turns, I will keep this review spoiler free, even if that means being vague and not going into details. Take my word for it though; if you like P&C this one will not disappoint. The development of the story is not easily predictable and it keeps evolving until you can see it in its full glory. So much so, that in the last chapters I got the feeling that I was playing a completely different style of story than when I first started the game. The voice acting is brilliant if you can tolerate the Australian accent. Mechanics-wise we have a very simple interface to keep track of story progression, inventory system, and different icons when hovering items that can be interacted with. Sometimes you'll click once to describe the object, and then the next time you hover the icon will change if a new action is available. So it's all lean and as simple as it gets. That doesn't mean the puzzles are not difficult, though. The grizzled gamer will find an enjoyable challenge in The Drifter. Failing some of these puzzles will result in death and having to retry them. And let me tell you, the developers made sure you wouldn't just brute force through these; I had to look up the solution to a couple of them and I rarely give up on puzzles. I wish all point and click games used the Broken Sword approach; have the option to request a couple of hints, and if you still can't solve it, just give me the solution. If I had to point out flaws, I would say some of Carter's voice acting is too over the top and overtly dramatic at times. The dialogues repeating after dying can get tiresome if you fail as much as I did at some of them; omitting the last few would haven been a better approach. However, keep in mind this is me nitpicking rather than a serious flaw will deter your experience in any way. 9.5/10. A must-buy for fans of the genre.

Excellent Story-driven adventure game
A very well written and superbly voice acted adventure game with mostly logical puzzles and some of the best interactions in the genre with just a few minor hickups in tone that never supressed it's charm for me. Gritty, charming, suspenseful, emotional to horrifying and sometimes silly with some of the best Voice Acting I've experienced in the genre. Highly recommended!

A gritty, tight thriller
The Drifter is a small, tense adventure game that feels like it was made by people who actually care about pacing. The story’s split into short chapters that keep the pace moving, and the tension builds in a way that’s rare for point-and-click games. I had fun with it, even when it frustrated me. There are sequences where you have to do specific actions in a specific order, under time pressure. You can restart as many times as you want, but when the clock’s ticking and you’re pixel-hunting for the right hotspot, it can get annoying. Thankfully there is a button that highlights all interactable objects. The presentation shows its budget, though. A lot of scenes just fade to black while the narration carries the story. No cutscenes or animation, just narration. Thankfully the voice work is really good. Compared to old adventure games of the ‘90s The Drifter feels... leaner? You're never juggling 20 locations or 15 unrelated puzzles at once. And if you get lost, there is a “current topics” menu, basically a reminder of what your character’s thinking about—helps a lot if you step away for a few days and forget what you were doing. It’s a small thing, but it makes the experience smoother. The inventory could be better, though. Items are tiny and monochrome, and sometimes I had to hover over each one just to figure out what it was. A splash of color or slightly larger icons would go a long way. The Drifter isn’t perfect. It’s clearly a low-budget game that punches above its weight. The voice work, the pacing, and the atmosphere make it worth playing.
