"Mean Streets" gets its proper treatment
"Mean Streets" was a good sci-fi mystery saddled by strange design choices that made it a chore to play. Almost 10 years later, the Tex Murphy team remade it as “Overseer”, giving it the same high-quality treatment as "Under a Killing Moon" and "Pandora Directive", with 1st person sleuthing and live actors in the cutscenes and suspect interviews. Scenes are usually well-staged. There are actually a couple new plot twists that make things rather different from "Mean Streets". And of course, the gaming has been overhauled, and it's quite good. Puzzles include some of the cleverest you'll find. A couple of the mini-game puzzles will annoy you, but most of them are fun & not as irritating as the ones "Pandora Directive" stuck in there. The 1st person interface, not as fluid as a FPS, doesn't work so well for the action-oriented puzzles and life-or-death situations. In best adventure game tradition, there's plenty to click on, resulting in comments from Tex that are loaded with humor. This game has plenty of atmosphere & character. No mystery about it—this version’s worth getting.
