Summed up, I found Terraformers interesting but frustrating. Frustrating because so much of the game happens at random. I'm not choosing how to mold my Colony, what to pursue in terraforming or how to manage the relations with Earth, I'm just choosing from randomized cards or drops or react to random events. In the end it feels like a solitaire, not a strategy game.
You're going to have to play this half-baked demo/tutorial twice to get it, and that means it's not a good tutorial.
It tells you to "do this XYZ" but doesn't explain what XYZ are, why they matter, where you're supposed to find them, how you're supposed to use them, or anything about them.
I think this is in part because the UI not intuitive and there are no warning indicators what your actions might do. You're left to fumble ignorantly and just deal with the outcome. Like, how was I supposed to know placing object A here would replace object B? The point of a tutorial is to INFORM the player, not frustrate them.
A lot of the text and icons are also quite small, which has been a plague of modern gaming for a while. I don't know why developers do this. I cannot read your tiny AF 4pt font on my 1920:1080 monitor. Stop using it.
The worst thing about this game, is not that the makers mislead the users to think it is a free and full game, by not stating it in the tile that it is a demo.
If that was the only problem than it deserves 1 star.
No, it doesn't even worth 1 star.
You start playing the game and it give you a leader. Every leader has one particular strength that boosts one type of structure you can build. So you start building up the colony focusing on that particular type of buildings. E.g. you build up a "farming" type colony.
As you play the game, at some point, you have to choose another leader with different strenght, that force you to build those type of building that this new leader boosts, and even destroying what already builted up.
Firts it doesn't seemed a problem, I was like "Ok. This must be somekind of turorial, that introduces you the abilities of the different leaders."
But as you play more, the game again FORCE you to choose different leader, even if you don't want, because you build up your colony focusing on one type of building that your current leader boosts. It FORCE you to destroy whatever you build up, just to give place to the new type of buildings, because of the extremely limted spots where you can build.
No matter how many times I started over, the game always softloked me, beacuse I can't keep building the type of colony I already has.
After countless times of restarting the game and running into this exact same problem, beacuse the game won't let you build whatever type of colony you want, it really pissed me up.
This FORCED annoying choosing another leader, destroy whatever the previous done, made me hate this game as much as it is humanly possible. I think even masochist will be pissed up by this.
A "game" should be fun to play, not annoying. This game is one of the worst and most annoying management game that I ever played.
Avoid it. There are countless of other free-to-play fun and great games out there to choose from.
I was expecting the full game, but got treated on a demo. Which is rather disappointing as the word DEMO is actually never mentioned. So that would be misleading at best and rather scammy. Companies should be making it clear it's a DEMO so you don't end up getting all exited only to get serious disappointed. This is NOT the way how you should handle a demo or your audience. I wonder what's wrong with people that think this is okay.
YES, they have now a 35 turn thing going on, 5 more then what it was in the past if I have to go on the earlier comments. Yes, it does give a general idea, but no it doesn't make up for the fact that this is a DEMO and it remains a serious scummy tactic regardless.
Now for the gameplay, well you have a specific amount of steps, which are not too many at all, to do before you can go to the next turn. So yeah you could say it's turn based in that sense.
I however should really make it clear that there is a very clear hint of wokeness in this title. Some of the leaders given are very clearly rainbow bs happy and push it down your throat all too happily. Same for the vegetarian nonsense being forced upon you and you got to be happy with similar nonsense. This shouldn't be in a game, it distracts and just causes you to shut it down and uninstall it.
I will NOT be buying this game, after getting fooled by a bait and switch scam I seriously couldn't be bothered anymore. And that's not even including the woke nonsense in this game.
