System Shock® 2 (1999)

This game was one of the first to legitimately creep me out while playing, it had great atmosphere with a rich and deep storyline that kept me hooked all the way through, all-the-while looking over my shoulder constantly in case another enemy came looking to bash my face in from the darkness. It kept its hooks in me from hiding from the first pipe hybrid all the way until the final confrontation, never once losing focus or momentum, one of the best games I've ever played.

I got into SS2 when it was new and back then, the atmosphere in the game was so chilling, I was literally scared stiff most of the games length! Today for me, obviously the impact isn't that great anymore but this is still one of the greatest games ever made. The game mechanics are intuitive, the atmosphere is still good and the storyline is stunning, just epic movie stuff! If you wan't your games to be immersive in almost every possible way and don't mind the dated look (which can be helped a bit with an unofficial patch) then get this game! Play it in the dark with your headphones on and enjoy.

Today is a historical day for gamers and GOG. System Shock 2 has been made available and COMPATIBLE with modern PCs. I'm not going to tell you more than you need to know, all you need to know is that if you never played this game, you missed out, don't miss out again! I played this game when it released (I was 9 years old) and needless to say it scared the living shit out of me. I never got passed maybe 30 minutes, but it was amazing lol. I spend countless days since trying to get it playable on my modern pc with hardly any luck, finally I got it working and it still scared the shit out of me and i'm 22 now :D I've since built a new computer and sadly lost my working copy, until this was released on GOG! If you consider yourself a gamer, do yourself a favor, play this game, and be thankful the day has come where anyone who wants to play now can with ease. I look forward to playing through the rest of the game, many people envy others playing for the first time, it's an incredible experience even to this day. If you own any game on GOG, make it this one. It's now a crime not to own it when it's so easy to obtain. HACKER FOR LIFE!

I bought the original SS2 when it was first released and fell in love with this amazing game, but it now requires patching and cd cracks to get my copy working. Not anymore thanks to GOG. I am a linux gamer and just installed this in Wine (windows 7 mode). WOW, no patching, full 1920x1080x32 screen with OpenAL 48 channel sound and ingame videos. As some other reviews have mentioned the shtupmod really makes this game great. Buy it.. Play it... Love It! what more is there to say.

If you thought Bioshock was awesome, you aint seen nothing yet. I truly think this game has the best sound design and voice acting of all time.
