High expectations, decent result (3.5)

As a long time fan of the Sokal titles, I was truly excited for this remaster, especially after the great results on TWB, followed by a wonderfully remade Amerzone. I was only slightly disappointed, mostly by the somewhat jarring camera experience in this 3D overhaul. Although it looks pretty good, I had hoped for more viewing freedom to really enjoy the stunning visuals as I imagined them to be. All too often it felt really unnatural and limited in what the game allowed me to see, even in locations where it made no sense to have such limitations. It often made me feel forced in direction, which is the opposite of what I expected the 3D enhancement to achieve. I otherwise enjoyed playing through the experience once more. I am however easily satisfied having grown up with games from the 8-bit era. The game is still a captivating marvel; hard to ruin that. Personally I kind of loved the stark contrast with the cut-scenes, as sort of a throwback to those who first played the original. The UI was reasonably well translated and simplified. The audio was good in general, other than voice level being way low, requiring some sound adjustments mostly for the music level to drop to about 20-30% Only came across a single bug that required me to force quit. The auto-save allowed me to continue without issue, so all good. I do believe there had been some bug fixes already. Not so sure if new players will enjoy this game as much as I did. To be honest, I am afraid they may not be as forgiving...

Worth it. With some comments, though

First things first, let me TL;DR you - I recommend the game. If you want to know specifics and my negative comments as well, keep reading. Nostalgia is a powerful substance and it is perfectly capable of carrying you throughan experience all on its own. Add a little bit of flare and some improvements, and it becomes quite enjoyable. That's how I would describe Syberia Remastered. I first played it in 2004 and it remained one of my all - time favourite games. Once I heard about the Remaster I was excited beyond belief. I waited and waited, watched the snippets, the trailers and finally, when it released I got on it immediately. Ok, intro over. When it comes to gameplay and in-game aesthetics, Syberia Remastered soars almost perfectly. The graphics are great, camera movement is amazing, and it feels very modern, but also very true to the beautiful aesthetic of the original. They did not do that dirty. The 'almost' part is reserved for Kate.... and specifically her face.... that lifeless wide - eyed zombie face almost threw me off and I'm happy it's not that visible most of the time. I'm sorry but that is a miss like no other. The original model is far superior. Apart from that, the visuals are nice(and no, I do not have an issue specifically with the non-remastered cutscenes. It would have been nice to have them remastered, yes, but for me it enhanced the nostalgia and brought back even more memories) In terms of gameplay: I like the new camera movement. That's pretty much it. Most of the rest, apart from some simplified puzzles, is the same. Most..... I have to ask - why would you put marked dots for the things you can interact with? The original games have precisely that beautiful aesthetic of you needing a keen eye and to hover your circular cursor over said item and seeing if it will glow, or not. Having these marks just makes it way more easy. I would have loved to have the option for the original setting. In my opinion as a whole, a fleshing out and visual modernizing of this game would have gone better if it was just that, without changing the appearance as a whole, but rather enhancing it. I do like that they did not touch the VAs. In overall, this game has always been heaviliy carried by the in-game aesthetics, conversations, Oscar, and the gameplay. The Remaster handles almost all of this well enough, and most of all, without disrespect. You can argue they were lazy for not remastering the cutscenes and so on, but still, what they have done, was with respect to the original. We can only hope they can improve for the potential remaster of Syberia 2 Thank you for reading.

A faithful and well-crafted remaster

Syberia – Remastered preserves the original's enchanting story and beautiful world, now featuring improved sound design, visuals, and smoother controls. As a slow-paced, thoughtful adventure game, it still may feel dated or quiet to some players. However, if you appreciate relaxed, story-driven adventure games with a unique atmosphere and an engaging plot, you will likely enjoy this well-crafted remaster of the classic.

its great but....

The visuals look great definitely a nice upgrade and I like that they kept the original voice recordings. It was fun revisiting familiar areas with a fresh look. That said, there are a few spots where sound effects are missing, which was kind of disappointing. They added some new puzzles, but honestly, they felt unnecessary. The cutscenes also haven’t been updated, which is a shame since it would’ve been better to match the updated graphics. For the price, I was really hoping it would include both games as one big story, but it’s just the first one. Overall, it’s worth checking out, but I’d wait for it to go on sale.

Could be better

Overall I am happy with remaster. Bought it and finished. Previously played it when was much younger after original release. I encountered bug with phone in barrockstadt. It was not working after second try to call it and I had to force close game to resolve it. Though I just googled code to lower water level and bypassed this. Rest of the game worked well. Personally I didnt like that by default game worked in story mode with some hints and that sometimes it was not working as I would expect. When I discovered phone of bar and called it there was no response which was confusing. Later once I talked to opera singer phone number started to work. The fact that in game cinematics were left as is is not pleasant. They really should have rerendered them with high res textures in high resolution. Because frankly in game graphics looks better than those ancient cinematics.
