Excruciating Brevity
I finished SUPERHOT in about one hour. There are around 30 levels which only take a couple of minutes each, with limited replay value as each level is built around a single setpiece and one hit killing maybe a dozen enemies that generally spawn in waves in the corners of the map. I felt like I had mastered the time dilation mechanic after the first handful of levels and the game doesn't really have any other mechanics to maintain engagement. About halfway through it gives players the ability to bodyswap with any enemy just by looking at them and pressing 'E', instantly destroying their previous body. This is on a short cooldown so it provides a nice addition without trivialising the later levels in which 5 or more enemies can be gunning at the player simultaneously. That and time dilation are really the only unique ideas here. While it is fun to actively block bullets by throwing physics props, I really can't recommend SUPERHOT for the asking price. The gameplay systems are all solid and polished (though melee has the usual first person range feedback problem), the narrative isn't worth mentioning because it's barely there and when it is it interrupts gameplay, and as a whole package it's more of a morsel than a meal. On a mostly personal note my PC slightly exceeds the recommended system requirements, but I did run into some micro-second stuttering when there was a lot happening at once.
