Pretty entertaining
Not bad for a space sim. A little simplistic but fun. The ship upgrading is very straight forward as is the research. Only bummer is having to travel all the way back to the very beginning each time you want to research. add crew. or upgrade your ship. I like how at the beginning you don't get blown up right away.

Hidden Gem!
Even though this is developed by just one person, this game is a real hidden gem! It's everything you come to expect from a 4X game, and then some: awesome story, breathtaking visuals, stunning galaxy to explore, great variation in alien species, and the game runs smoothly without any bugs or glitches. The learning curve is not too difficult, the hud is intuitive, and it even has controller support! I haven't finished the game yet, there is a LOT to explore, and some puzzles may not be clear from the start, but I'm eager to find that one planet that gives me a hint for them, and some puzzles I've already solved in this way. Might want to 100% this one! Even though there is no spoken dialogues, it is all text based, still 5 out of 5 stars! BTW, there is also a 'sequel' called Starcom Unknown Space, and it is in early access on Steam. I can't wait to try that one out as well!

Ridiculously hand-crafted
This game is an anomaly. It has to be. Games aren't supposed to be like this now. With a strong narrative right from the outset, you become the hero in a galaxy-spanning adventure that relies on your swift relexes and.... yeah, no. You can play at your own pace and difficulty setting. The meat of the game is saving your crew and comrades and this is done through missions/quests, resource-gathering, exploration and engaging your inner child watching Star Trek for the first time, whichever version it was. Outstanding. Starfield wishes it had this kind of integrity.

Diminishing returns
I love the idea and vision behind the game, but the implementation lags far behind. It is rather Star Trek-like in that you "explore strange new worlds" and seek out alien races and civilizations, And for about 2-3 hours its kind of interesting. However, the more you explore, the gameplay loop exhausts itself fairly early. You build a ship, search for resource for upgrades, scan a planet, read a description, pick an answer from a multiple choice menu, and then you're off to the next planet or worm hole. There are encounters that break up the monotony, such as the occasional ship-to-ship skirmish, but these are too simple and arcadey to really be fun. I put in about 5 hours, and it seemed that I had seen about all that the game had to offer. If you want a solid space exploration game with some decent missions, good combat, and engaging leveling and upgrade system, play one of the Space Rangers games or Freelancer. Spacecom: Nexus was a bit of a letdown. It starts off promising, but then drops the ball pretty quickly.

Star Control 2 in essence
And just like SC2, it's a game that I can't stop playing, once started. Needs some polishing in terms of user-comfort, but you can find much of that in it's predecessor Starcom - Unknown Space. If the developer wants to further expand on this "franchise", I'll be a customer for sure.
