Great game, not as good as outcast.
This game is great, but not as great as the second: Jedi Outcast. Fighting still feels very good, force is a bit better implemented this time. A great new option is the free mission choise. Levels are shorter, but you have more variety. But this here is actually the biggest problem: Remember those huge complex levels from Jedi Outcast? Well, you have nothing like this here. Instead of huge mazes, the levels are more straight, more oneway. Sometimes there are alternate routes, which lead to secret rooms, but more often then not, these are one ways, so you have to walk back on track afterall. Often you run in circles, meaning that you go from A to B, B to C and then back from C to A. The leveldesign is still very nice, don't get me wrong, but this is clearly a step back to Outcast. The gunplay still feels very good. Sadly there are NO new weapons, so this game may feel more like an addon at times. You have to choose a fixed amount of weapons at the start of the level, but can carry more if you find new ones throughout the level. But there are some strange things: Why for exmaple is it not longer possible to change camera to 1st person mode, while wealding the lasersword? Also because of the more straight levels, stealth (that was an option in Outcast) is a nogo in this one. Why these steps back? I don't get it. The combosystem is quit nice, but actually not rewarding enough. It those not make things easier to unleash the best combos in relation to just smash the left mouse button. What is really great is the level variety. There is one level where you should not touch the ground, if you don't want to get eaten by a worm. Great idea, something that Outcast was missing. Last but not least, your own made character is a bit boring compared to Kyle Katarn. Well that is a thing to live with, but worth mentioning. So lets settle this down: Jedi Academy is a great game! No as good as Outcast, but still an awesome shooter / SW game. Although it feels more like an addon.
