Great game, yet crashy and buggy.

I read somewhere that apparently this game is 32bit and still doesn't properly use all the ram available to it, which results in some very serious performance issues and crashing, even if you have a really decent computer. Remember, this game (or rather games etc FOC. expansionpack etc.) came out several years ago and a fairly new computer will have serious issues with this game because of how poorly optimized it is from what I have read all over the internet. I love the game and the modding community is HUGE, but there are what feel like hundreds of great mods that are concepts and ideas, but mostly all are unfinished and a huge buggy broken mess (if you care about user created content) and it's not the easiest thing to add and remove mods from this game unless you hire a 1337 uber hacker to edit batch files for you (NOT RECOMMENDED!) Anyway, it's a really fun game (while it's functioning!) but otherwise it will make you want to rip your hair out. Lots of nostalgia with this game so 5 stars. It's just special and fun. does feel a bit rushed by the devs though to be honest but it's not the worst rush job I think I ever encountered. That's just how it feels to me. Honestly just wishlist it and wait for it to go on sale and then grab it! hours of fun!

Still fun to play

This was the best starwars strategy game ever released. I loved it, even the expansion was good, just not great. Probably the only downside, the land battles, C&C mechanics. The space battles alone were epic and should have been the only thing.

There are some great mods out there

This game is fun! It has all the things you need to be great and, gladly, there are a lot of good mods out there. I played the Steiner AOR Mod (which tries to relieve some of the old Rebellion glory) and also some Prequel Mods that are quite good from what I've seen in playthroughs. The Game itself in it's vanilla state is, after playing it with some serious mods, for me unplayable. But I have to rank it with 4 Stars, given the time I sank into it.

this game is a godsend

When disney dissolved lucasarts, so went the site that had the patch for my physical copy of this game, meaning it would not work with windows 7 anymore. Skip to twop days ago when I found this on GOG. Now onto the review. If you are a sdtar wars fan, you will love this game to bits

Digital copy runs horribly

I used to own the physical copy of this game - same version as here on GoG. I ran the game on the same computer about 5 years back from the physical copy (when I still owned it) and the game worked just fine. I can't say the same for the version sold on GoG. Win 7 Home 64bit i5-4670k @ 4.4 GTX 980Ti 16GB DDR3 Game runs off my 1TB WD Black (like all my other games I have from GoG and they don't run poorly) The game plays okay through all the introduction maps and even the start of a story mode game, but after about 15-20 in-game days have passed the game starts to chug. It's like watching a horrific slideshow. The game play so slow at times it take 10+ seconds to switch between planets on the galactic map and trying to move in battles becomes irritating with the inability to actually select units or move the map so you can continue to move your units forward. If you really want this game, do yourself a favor, track down a physicl copy of it. I might just have to do that.
