To Bodly Go.. to a black screen
Tried playing this game this morning and the furthest I got was seeing a pixelated 240p Paramount logo video pop up and then nothing. Application minimizes and just hangs. After 20 years, I expected these ports to be a little more optimized. *SIGH* welp, back to playing Star Trek: Birth of the Federation!

Meh, not as good as SFC Orion Pirates
Simplified version of the Starfleet Command series. Some will prefer this, but so much has been taken out it loses much of the flavor and strategy. There aren't even any extended & unique firing arcs. But the return of officer ranks is interesting. TNG really features some ugly ships outside of the iconic designs. (Mods and converted ship used to be available but those sources seemed to have mainly died.) Goofy problems with Win8 & 10. Not worth the hassle of figuring out so I have been playing around with this on my older Win7 machine. (Which works fine.) As mentioned, it seems like the mod community has flopped over for the most part on the SFC series, which is a shame. (There seem to be a few all-in-one mods still available.) Meh.

Could not get to run on Win8
Would not run on my Windows 8 laptop. Took 3 months to receive my first reply from support, and then I've spent another 3 with tech support, exhausting every fix they could think of, and it still doesn't work. I wish it did. I've wanted to play this for years. Very dissatisfied with the entire experience. Except the Support guy was polite and honestly tried to help.
