Great game with only minor blemishes

I have not yet completed Spellforce, but from what I have played, I have been enjoying it a lot! I feel like I am playing a mixture of Warcraft 3 and Dungeon Siege 1, but it does not have the feel of a clone of either game. There are but two areas that keep this game from being five stars for me. First, the voiceovers are a nice touch, but the actors used are mostly terrible at conveying emotion. This really takes away from my immersion! Second, some of the game mechanics are not very intelligent. Suppose you have a group of 3 healers, 3 ranged, and 3 melee units. If one melee unit takes damage, all three healers will expend their mana pool to heal him simultaneously when only one needed to cast. This example of overhealing is but one of the oddities in the game mechanics that create problems. Even so, the mechanic issues are not game-breakers, thankfully.

Jeu d'anthologie et du coeur !

Bien que les années aient passé, les graphismes restent encore toujours aussi détaillés. Les personnages notamment sont un régal pour les yeux ! La possibilité de passer en vue à la troisième personnage est ajout tactique non négligeable, en effet, il est très appréciable de pouvoir observer ce qui se passe en passant outre le brouillard de guerre ! La musique est de très grande qualité ! Certaines se démarquent comme par exemple celle de la carte de Liannon. Les voix françaises (trouvables sur le net) sont bonnes même si on sent que certains doubleurs n'y mettent pas du cœur. Encore un mot sur le français : c'est plutôt bien traduit mais si vous faites un personnage féminin, les dialogues ne changent pas. Seul votre protagoniste se référera à elle en tant que "guerrière" de la Rune (et pas tout le temps). Mauvais point ! L'histoire est sympathique. Les explications du pourquoi et du comment des portails que l'on passe pour changer de zone sont "crédibles" et rendent l'univers intéressant. Trois campagnes dont deux voies "différentes" pour la dernière suivant votre importation de sauvegardes : la durée de vie est longue car certaines cartes sont costauds ! Les points d’attributions et de compétences nous permettent de créer le héros que l'on souhaite : magie, armes et armures... On peut vraiment se spécialiser ! C'est excellent mais certaines compétences auraient mérité un rééquilibrage, je pense à la magie mentale ; sur le papier, c'est pas mal mais le manque de sort offensif rend cette classe jouée pure trop difficile. En parlant d’équilibrage, nous avons six races jouables mais quand vous tombez sur un monument des nains, vous savez que vous avez tiré le gros lot ! Améliorez les défenseurs et faites-vous que ces unités : vos adversaires fuiront de terreur devant les marteaux lancés tandis que vos troupes rouleront sur la carte ! SpellForce est un jeu exceptionnel et il fait parti de ceux qui m'ont marqué. Je ne peux que vous recommander ce titre !

An entertaining mess

Is an RTS, but also an action RPG, reminds me a lot of WC3, but you can equip gear and level up, and playing as a necromancer is pretty darn good, the auras are incredibly useful and helpful minions serve as cannon fodder, through the campaign you can control different factions, I particularly like the elves, with their infinite amount of wood you can build towers right in the middle of hostile territory and cheese the dumb enemy AI (they tend to ignore towers for some reason). Unfortunately , I was about to mount a big assault so I opened the menu to save , but the game crashed so hard I had to reboot my PC and lost like an hour of progress. That killed all momentum for me. (and this was not the first time the game crashed either) On top of that the game has a myriad of issues: - missing UI elements ( I read there's a widescreen mod that fixes it, but you have to sign uop to a forum to download it and I can't be bothered) - Building structures is frustrating, the game doesn't give you any "buffer" so even the smallest obstacle is insurmountable - units don't have buttons to change stances or behaviors, the extended tutorial tallks about keybinds to make your units patrol or hold their ground, but no quick access in the interface, and healing units throw themselves into battle with the utmost desire to die - No keymapping menu, so you are stuck with the default keybinds - No way to tell how many workers are doing what - Even though the game is very action oriented and wants you to explore, there's no fullscreen map, you are stuck with the minimap for all your exploration needs, and talking about that, why explored maps go back to unexplored status when you restart the game or travel between maps? is not like new enemies or treasure spawned In the end, despite its issues, and even if the graphics are not sparkling new or the voice acting is a hit and miss, the game is fun when you get down to it, just make sure to save often.
