Not as polished as I had hoped
Having bought this a few years after it came out of Early Access I expected a great game. This is a decent game, but it is not a great one. I played it on linux for just over 33h. Time was kept thanks to a manager called GameHub. I reached the end credits around 24h in. Since the game doesn't stop there I kept playing. At 33h in I would have two more expansions to win, the last 7z club reward to buy and two dozen or so treasure chests to find. I don't think I will do any of that. Now, as for reviewing the rest of the game. I played the game on linux with the native port. That means no directx. I dunno if it was opengl or the engine but the game had problems with the light. At near 90 degrees the cell shading was replaced by glaring reflection. - minus half a star The game engine itself had problems rendering shadows and sometimes they only loaded as I entered the exact location - minus half a star. The UI was made during early access and it was never improved. While that is excusable for an indie, the game's first impression, UI wise, makes me reluctant to give this as a gift to somebody - I'd hate for anybody to think I was cheap with their gift or gave them some janky crap, first impressions matter - minus half a star. I dunno if this was linux, opengl related, or just me not liking some of the shaders the game uses - this one is subjective, but so are reviews in general- minus half a star. I played this on a 9th gen i5, a GTX1650, with the game installed on an SSD. All setting to high, no FPS drops but loading times continued to increase. Towards the end initial loading was close to 40s. No other loading during gameplay though. - minus half a star. (I don't like seeing noticeable load times on an SSD, others might not mind) Finally, the game itself just didn't hold my attention. I bought it at a discount and I can say I more then got my money's worth. But I don't know how often, if ever, I will reinstall it. 2.5/5 stars. Not bad, but not great either.

Great potential but not much else.
Not worth writing an in-depth review so here's a summary: POSITIVES: - Good learning curve. - Decent graphics for this price. - Cutesy art style that doesn't go overboard. NEGATIVES: - Difficulty... there isn't any to speak of. You're never in any danger of dying unless you're clumsy enough to fall into the sea and even then there's hardly any penalty for it. In terms of the actual farming/ranching it's more of a grind than anything even remotely challenging. - Traversing the open world is very frustrating, it feels like it's made up of multiple linear levels stitched together. You have the means to traverse the map like you would in most open world games but you will usually be met with an invisible wall forcing you to take pre-determined paths instead. It's very easy to get lost in as you have nothing to help you find your way around apart from an extremely vague map. - Resource gathering very tedious, the game encourages you to travel far for better resources but when you get there your inventory will most likely be full already as you can only carry 4 items at once. - It features many interesting mechanics but none of them seem to really serve a purpose. It has a day/night cycle and you can sleep to skip the night time but there's absolutely no reason to do this as you'll never become exhausted. It also has a market system but given the size of your inventory and the lack of any practical way to store items there's really no raeson not to sell what you have immediately. Honestly though, the biggest deal breaker for me had I known about it would be the fact that the Steam version received free exclusive DLC despite costing less than the GOG version, so technically the GOG version is incomplete. The GOG version also doesn't come with a demo despite the fact that the Steam version does. If there's one thing I can't stand it's when developers show platform bias.
