it's a love story
Slay the Princess is full of surprises and extremely fun to play through, again and again, to see what possibilities have been written into the story. It is a bit surreal and dreamlike, so don't go in expecting a grounded explanation for the story.

A travel inside our fear of feminine archetype
When I began to play I said to myself: "Oh, no: another metaish game with witty dialogues and parallel universes". Well, it's not that. Sure, it is meta; sure, it has witty and funny dialogues. But all of these things are not the base of the game and are well nestled in the writing. It can be read as a love story of comprehension of the princess partner, or, more metaphorical, as a love story of comprehension of ourservels. It speaks to us, to the players. Every part of the princess that you meet (mirrored in the various personalities of the protagonist), every new beginning, the multiverse structure, everything is there for us to understand one or more part of us that we can't sustain yet. Played in the right way, it's a deep dive in order discover what we hope and fear about love, power, soul, unknown and death. In a word: about feminine archetype.

Less than "promised".
I debated buying this game for an extremely long time because the premise sounded amazing, but I generally don't like "narrative" games. I like GAME, games. And exactly what I was afraid this game would be, it is. This game, like many "narrative adventure games" dresses itself in the trappings of being an actual adventure game. But in reality, you have VERY little choice and VERY little ability to interact. The premise of the game is phenomenal: You are on a quest to kill a princess. But the quest was given to you by someone who lacks candor, the the princess is said to be a liar and a deceiver. In short, you don't know WHAT to believe. What will you do? It doesn't matter, because this premise is thrown out the window in about 45 seconds in order to tell an existential surrealist narrative that doesn't really have anything to do with the premise. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE surrealism. And there are a lot of amazing surrealist gems in this script. But with the game so quickly abandoning the very concept of "characters", "setting" and even "having a point", I quickly became bored and was playing just to justify the money I spent. If you do buy this, you're buying it for better-than-average surrealist poetry and some occasionally good art. That's about it, in my opinion.

Very good but not great
+ multiple endings, + good OST, + good writing, + dark humour that works, + great art for most of time, + interesting story at first... - ... but really clichéd moral at the end, - individual stories are more interesting than final reveal, - choices matters only in particular story, not at the end (except for one ending added in extended version), ? - It's neither + or -, but at first glance it looks like game with meta-plot about nature of fictional stories (with usage of the Narrator, that threatens to end world if player don't follow story and so on), but it's not the main part of game.
