A remake for a inaccessible classic
I waited so long to have access to this game because it seems Konami were really sitting on their grandiose legacy IPs, but here we are with this beauty. Its atmospheric, the sound design is top notch, the visuals are hauntly beautiful. That said, Silent Hill is not a great place to be... a awful awful place with enerving and horrendous creatures. I do recommend to play it on a controller because of the feedback vibrations and with headphones because of the 3D audio, it is really immersive to play (and suffer) that way. I can't really compares to the original game as other people do but this game appears to be a faithful recreation and a 'remixed' homage to the PS2 classic. It is worth noticing that the developers themselves tried to use original early designs of some characters, showing how they manage to study and assimilate the source material in all its forms. Regarding the game itself, I sincerely liked the Over the Shoulder Third Person Camera and could see the effort to make as scary and compelling as the old "Survival Horror-ish" camera was. The same could be said about how they manage to use fog and darkness as a beautiful high-graphics atmospheric enhacer. Thinking about the latest horror games I played, this one was the better regarding how I was intrigued, compelled and horrified in my journey through this cursed town and sad inhabitants. A "hard fun" game because is not a easy breezy playthough but is rewarding as hell when you unveil all Silent Hill mysteries.
