Cool squad-based tactics game
Shadow Watch is a turn-based tactics game which appears quite simplistic but has some rather interesting (and unique) features that make it worth a look for any fan of TB tactics. The mechanics are simple yet allow for a multitude of options. You begin a campaign by selecting one of the three campaign locations - these can be done in any order. Once in a location, you first have to "interview" someone before you get a choice of missions. These "interviews" are a micro text adventure (OK two questions). Depending on your choices, a number of additional people to interview may be opened up and ultimately leads to a choice of missions. Each location features three factions. One of these will be an enemy faction, one will be neutral, while the third will be "friendly"; however, note that missions may potentially be against any of the three, depending on choices and random factors determined by the game. Which is one of the best features - no two games will be alike! Mission types vary: bug planting, item stealing, hostage rescue, abduction, demolition, and all-out assault and defense. All missions start stealthily until you go loud or are spotted. Stealth isn't generally required but does help you gain the edge initially. At mission start, you can choose who of your team to bring with the number of places determined by mission type (though you can bring less). The team members are each unique - they each have their own weapon with unlimited ammo which cannot be changed, except in the case of choosing Rafael's grendades. Team members are unique, and each has a unique weapon (or in one case, just a scanner) which cannot be changed, but which has unlimited ammo, plus each has unique special moves. Tactical gameplay is similar to Shadowrun Returns except you have a rudimentary morale system, you can crouch, and simplified damage modelling. Team members have unique skill trees, which improve abilities and/or open up extra special moves when upgraded between missions.
