In the near future, during their first interstellar travels, humans encounter a great evil that has been roaming the galaxy for the last few eons. This evil being is an incarnation of the last ancient immortals called Notorious Mental. Mental has set forth to wipe out the Human Race, just for fun, as it has with all the other civilizations in galactic history.
But the enemy has underestimated Earth’s defenses, a secret weapon left by the Sirians, an ancient race which fought against Mental on Earth in ancient times. This device, called the Timelock, will enable Special Forces veteran Sam 'Serious' Stone to return to the time of ancient Egypt and assassinate Mental, saving Mankind from extinction.
In a world where cyberpunk meets fantasy and hi-tech devices are mixed with black magic and psychic powers, Sam travels from the beautiful world of ancient Egypt through many diverse planets, confronting hordes of Mental's hideous minions on his way to the final showdown at Notorious Mental's lair.

Essentially every level is a collection of a few large completely flat and open areas that spawn monsters and every now and then ammo and health. Clear an area, go through the now open door, go to the next room and repeat.
There are some levels, especially early on, that play around a bit more with geometry and making interesting looking maps. Unfortunately it seems they decided to only do large open areas with waves of the same enemies afterwards. Hard pass on this unless you really love FPS games... and maybe even then.
I played Serious Sam before but the newer ones and I got in loved with it at the first 10 min of combat and I decided to give it a try to the older ones. I don't regret buying them
Highly intense on the higher difficulty settings - there's a reason it's a classic. Maximum graphic settings render a game that doesn't look disappointing considering its age.
This game had potential, but it was wasted due to poor decisions by the developers. The game is very punishing, having a lot of traps. Often you are better off ignoring areas and item pickups to avoid spawning more enemies, in a game that already has far too many enemies. It's one thing to have a lot of combat scenarios if they are varied, and the gameplay has enough variety to stay interesting. That is not the case here. The worst offender are the Kleer packs. The game spams you with multiple groups of Kleer in every single level. They are ok as an enemy, but they are so overused that it becomes tedious and annoying every time they show up. Most levels are corridors and arenas where all you do is kill an absurd amount of enemies again and again. There is no reward and most times you are forced to fight every enemy before progressing. The gameplay loop feels like a Beat 'Em Up with guns. Go through mostly linear maps until the game stops and throws a bunch of enemies. Then you have to clear the screen before you are allowed to continue. That’s it. Extremely repetitive and gets very dull from the halfway point. There is minimal exploration, it’s a linear game, and as I said you can get punished for exploring. There are so many better FPS games that I can’t possibly recommend this one.
