Wow! in full resolution 3DFX!
This is a game a played a lot in the 90's and now with new computers, replay it in full 3D resolution is incredible! Note: if you want 3d resolution in full framerate, edit the dosbox_screamer2_3dfx.conf file, and change "full" with "write", and it will night and day difference.

Wow, instant buy!
I'm a racing game fan but no game has taken me so many hours than Screamer 2. You could spend (and I did spend) hours and hours trying to get that turn done better, replayability is excellent even if there are very few tracks compared to modern games. I remember driving those rear-wheels powered cars was a *real* and *fun* challenge. Good to see it on GOG, added it to my collection. I'm curious to see the stability of this version, I remember the genuine one wasn't excellent, used to somewhat crash too often.

Spoiled by setups
The cars are all fun to drive, and the different environments do genuinely call for different approaches. Racing on asphalt roads takes guts and faith in the grip you have. Racing on loose surfaces requires discipline, resisting the temptation to overstep your limits. And there's plenty of in between situations, like judging how much you can get away with cutting a corner on a difficult surface. Or even overcoming nature's obstacles, like night time and fog. The critical flaw in the game for me is in the setups. You can choose suspension stiffness, tire set, tire pressures, etc. before every race, and everything has a very profound effect. So profound that if you get a couple of these elements wrong, you're wasting your time in the next race. Picking the right tire compound won't even put you in the ballpark. There's very little clarity in what effect the setup options have outside trial and error. And in a game like this you can never be sure they react realistically, ruling out a conventional understanding.

The racing game of my childhood
The physics are the highlight of this game, so advanced for its time. The soundtrack is incredible. I spent so many hours playing this over 25 years ago and now I'm happy to be able to play it again.

My favourite racing game
Brought back from the '90s to my modern PC by the wonderful people at GoG. The soundtrack, the jagged pixels... ahhh, fondness instantaneously rekindled. I've discovered the 3DFX launching method, locked in 4:3 mode, wow. Now to force my kids into headphones and the janky way of controlling via a keyboard! See who can set the best time in California :) If I keep up on the purchases within GoG, i'm not going to need to keep my old CD versions of the classic games!
