Satellite Reign

This spiritual successor to the genre-defying (or maybe defining) 1996 Sydicate Wars takes players back in time to an era of game design that had the art and the fun front and center. You will not find microtransactions or an Internet connection requirement for a single player campaign or design by marketing feature list or any of the other afflictions of modern corporate enshitification. What you will find is a surprisingly immersive role-playing adventure accross a sprawling cyberpunk cityscape.

It's a solid game with a stereotypical, but REALLY WELL executed, cyberpunk atmosphere. (What can I say, I love rain and neon lights) I often had glitches and bugs, but they were more amusing and not really gamebreaking.

Love the environment, love the gameplay, love the story. You can play solo stealth or with a friend as a chaotic run n gun, great fun either way..

Finally finished after playing intermittently over 5(?) years. I bought bc I played Syndicate as a kid but while SR shares a lot in terms of appearance and game mechanics, it feels like a very different game. It takes a while (at least it did for me) to get into hoiw to interact with the world and understanding what the different classes of operators do. The new game mechanics of having operators being different classes with different abilities increases the depth of interacting with the world in terms of puzzle solving but at the same times decreases the mayhem and destruction that was mostly guaranteed in the old Syndicate games. It moves the focus from dark dystopian future world to world build to be interacted with 4 classes of operators. However, SR is it's own game and on its own terms it's certainly a good experience.

The bad: -Hijacked individuals do not save with games and vanish upon travel. -Fullscreen dual head in linux is a pain if you want it on a different monitor. You have to switch modes, move to other desktop, switch back. The good: -Everything else. Great content, great graphics, great (though little) voice over, nice story lines, total 1980s blade runner feel, variable mechanics, easily hackable save games ( *grin* ), decent length run through for price, just a damn fun and involved game. Anyone that likes this sort of genre its a must have. So good in fact I will be purchasing this as a gift very shortly.
