Resident Evil

This is the original PC port of Resident Evil. Why is that significant? Because it is the only version of the original game to be released in the US that is completely uncensored. Stuff like the the extra gory cutscenes and Chris lighting a cigarette are left intact. The real only change I could find in this port is a QoL improvement, supporting modern gamepads.

It was great to play this game again, and it surpisingly looked great on a modern setup. Everything was exactly as it should be. On screen it looked crisp and not blocky or stretched out, and all with the same ridiculously terrible voice acting that we all came to love and cherish.... it took me right back to '98, the days where i could pull all-nighters and eat two large pizzas hammering this and the other Ressie's it on my Playstation and bubblebox TV. Now.... GOG, lets have a genuine conversation about Dino Crisis....?

I personally have become a fan of RE since 2 or 3 years ago and since then I have played every single main resident evil game except from the spinoffs and the original PS1 trilogy, and I gotta say that even coming from playing the RE1 remake it still is a very solid game to play. Yeah it has less content than the remake and less lore and story, but the overall setting, the thicc pixels, the music, the overall game feel still holds up even to this day (Atleast to me). Is always fun to me to explore how old games used to be and I always knew I had to play the original games at some point and I am glad I did, is fun to discover the changed they did to the remake from this one and finding those differences and returning to the Spencer mansion once again is always a delight, it not only showcases how great the remake was but it also shows how solid the original game is and how big of an impact it left in the industry. So I totally recommend it if you want to explore the origins of this franchise. Can't wait to play RE2 and specially RE3 PLEASE CAPCOM WE NEED A PROPER REMAKE OF RE3 :'( Regarding this gog release is very solid, I had 0 technical issues even if I played the game day 1 I played the game with a PS5 dualsense and had 0 issues, the only con I would say it has is that the FMVs run at a very low frame rate but that's a problem of the OG release on PC more than a GOG problem. They did a fantastic job on making this game available for newer fans just like me, is important to preserve games and I love that now is on GOG and legally available :).

Resident Evil 1 classic never ran this good. I previously played two of three PS1 versions. I would even say it's so good I can't even criticize it a little bit.

Great port of an old gem no issues running it works right out of the "box" so to speak. Could not ask for more.
