My favorite video game of all time
I enjoyed this game from the first second. The introduction video itself is fantastic, putting you inside Parker's head in no time at all, with all the relevant questions answered. The gameplay is superb, and the physics engine remains one of the most enjoyable ever created.

A game far too great to miss
Back when Red Faction was released it was an amazing game, and was one of the best shooters at the time that combined both an interesting story, with fun and interesting gameplay and level design. Ridiculously topping far too many of the games ive played today that ive enjoyed. Combat feels extremely satisfying, story elements are enthralling and voice acting is superb - and if your consider graphics an important feature then it looks quite good, not up to todays standards apparently but it definetly isnt an ugly game by any means. Please buy this awesome game if you like any game ever.

The worst way to play Red Faction.
Red Faction has all the key components to be an amazing game, but the PC version in particular ruins the whole experience. Avoid. This isn't GOG's fault per-say, but the developer as a whole. The PC version, even on era-correct hardware, just won't start; I tried on my XP Gaming rig with a 8800gtx and my 9x machine with a 6600 ultra and..... Nothing. The game just literally won't start without some fan patch installed! (And when using a patch, playing the game is quite useless as it crashes FREQUENTLY!) If you absolutely want to play with keyboard, get the Macintosh version (Mac OS 8+) or just play the Playstation 2 release. Pfft, I had a better time even with the N-Gage version.

Better Than Half-Life
I'm going to get a lot of flak for this, but this is like Half-Life, except better... and I didn't like Half-Life. It wants to be Half-Life SOOOOOOO bad, too, having the same weapon select system, only having occasional music (which usually apes Doom), and even recycling one of its plot twists. Still, it's not nearly as janky, and there are several vehicle sections, most of which are actually fun. Problem is what it throws at you: stealth sections, escort missions, and even a "lure the invincible baddie into a trap that may or may not work while it drowns you in a hail of gunfire and rockets", not to mention that you die VERY easily; plenty of enemies can one-shot you, even with full health and armor, especially later in the game, not that the armor does much of anything to begin with. On top of all that, the weapons are so limp that they aren't much fun to use; believe it or not, the pistol remains your best weapon for most of the game, until you find a precision rifle, and the shotgun is almost completely worthless. Yes, it has destructible environments, but it's usually tedious to tunnel your way through anything, and the fun of circumventing a door with a brick of explosives that weighs the same as a small child dies out less than halfway through the adventure.
