Rebel Galaxy est une aventure spatiale mêlant combats effrénés, exploration, découverte, commerce et "négociation" avec des populations peu aimables aux confins de l'univers connu.
En tant que commandant d'un vaisseau spatial extrêmement puissant, vous affronterez des pirates, explorerez des anomalies, vous lierez d'amitié avec des extra-terrestres, pillerez des épaves, extrairez du minerai sur des astéroïdes et découvrirez des artefacts. Choisissez votre voie : bandit au grand cœur, commerçant rusé ou chasseur de primes assoiffé de pouvoir... ou un peu des trois ! Achetez du matériel plus puissant grâce à vos crédits durement gagnés, et améliorez-le avec de nouvelles armes et autres moyens de défense. Se déroulant dans une galaxie aux panoramas à couper le souffle et aux nombreux secrets, Rebel Galaxy est avant tout un mélange spatial épique d'aventure, d'exploration et de combat.

Awesome graphics, good story, nice difficulty, and good UI for a gamepad. Can't wait for DLC! Don't be too put off by the horizontal axis restriction, it works pretty well and keeps it simple - because that's what this game is: a simple, linear and fun game. Lots of meat in side quests, but you're pretty much never lost. A bug or too with warp pairing, but other than that: solid gold!
Rebel Galaxy is a fun expansive space game that sacrifices complete freedom and dogfighting to bring something completely new to the table, which is fun and unique
Pros:
-Areas feel (and are) big and look wonderful
-Awesome music which adds a bit of a Mad Max feel (my opinion)
-Ship combat which reminds strongly combat in pirate games which requires maneuvering to let shields recover and using "deflectors" to absorb damage in an emergency
-Fully voice acted with only a few quircky lines and many alien dialects
-huge variety of weapons and defence mechanisms to choose from which can change gameplay, especially the "broadside" weapons
-Trade or fight and/or join certain factions which have unique ships or items
-You can engage Warp speed at almost any point
-An interesting story around your Aunt and a certain object she uncovered...
Cons:
-You are limited to a 2D Plane, same as for the big enemy ships but not the fighters. Can feel limiting. ESPECIALLY when you have something thats below you or above you.
-Combat most of the time is just firing broadside weapons and maneuvaring, managing your other turrets in combat is not viable because...
-...the camera is almost impossible to control unless you switch to broadsides. (Game knows this and hints at it)
-Nearly EVERYTHING is automated. If you want to engage "Warp" you have to wait for the game to give you the go ahead after you travelled for x distance. for example
-Controller is, as far as I can see, required.
-The "Warp" will not get you to your destination immediately so you can sit back and wait until you arrive. Many time you have to almost drift out of the way of nebulas and asteroid fields. Its easy to do but can sometimes get annoying
Overall: I like this game a lot. I played Freelancer and loved the heck out of that game too. And I noticed that even though you were not restricted to a 2d plane and it was dogfighting and not ship to ship combat in that game, I get a similar vibe from this game too.
I had high hopes for this game when I first came across it, it seems a lot like Mass Effect but with more of a space combat focus, and heavy Firefly vibes. Pretty much everything I'd want in a game, really!
Well, I hate to say it but I'm severely disapointed.
For starters, it's a spaceflight game without 6 degrees of freedom. Spaceflight is done on a flat, level plane; forwards and back and side to side, basically like a boat. This might not bother some, but as someone who has grown up enjoying games like X-Wing, Descent and Freespace, and more recently Elite: Dangerous, I was EXTREMELY let down by this and I can't let it slide.
Then there's the story, world and plot. I'm a big fan of some cheesy comic book/B-movie pulp, and they could have gone all in on that and made it work, but instead they went halfway there but I feel still try to make you take it serious. It's not awful but to me this just makes it feel like a derivative knockoff of the sci-fi game genre rather than just cool and corny.
Tying in to that, you've got the soundtrack. Some of ya'll seem to love it but I can't stand it. This game blasts you in the face with dorky butt-rock that couldnt even make it on something like Sons of Anarchy. It doesn't feel like it even fits. It's Nickelback in space and frankly it's embarrasing
The gameplay itself? I'm underwhelmed. It's a grind, and the combat feels clunky and button-mashy. It's basically a spectator sport of grinding for new weapons and shields and sliding around mashing buttons till the other ships blow up or blow you up.
In short, while nt objectively terrible, the whole thing just feels out of date and far behind. This game would have been great as an Xbox 360 launch game in 2005. But in this day and age it's just a dud that fails to hold my attention when I can play something similar but much more interesting.
Was really looking forward to this being Pirates! in space. It was a complete letdown. It has a very obscure and annoying camera angle. A top down view with the broadside style combat seems better suited. Controls are cluncky and feel imprecise and hard to parse. The world is very empty. Travel takes up a lot of time with a grating soundtrack all the way through. Graphics are very muddled as well. Happy others can enjoy it so much at least.
