Southern rock space pirates!
It's cool. Maybe a little bit repetitive, but it's really a new turn in spaceship videogames.

The space sim for the less crazy people
If you have that want to play a space sim, but Elite Dangerous is to daunting and Star Citizen is to far away then this is the game for you. Some might say the combat is dumbed down when compared to those games which they would be right. But it's not dumbed down to the point were it's not challenging. The visuals are good for the art style they're going for. The fact that you're not just exploring a black void makes it more enjoyable and pleasing to the eyes. Audio is great unless you're not into the type of music they're going for. Two gripes with the game so far would be the annoying noise they chose for when someone pops up on the radio and (at least so far the starting area) it seems empty with nothing really catching my eye to go explore.

Epic, but not faultless.
Can't really comment for PlayStation, but on XBOX this game is an epic open space action roleplaying game that I had few problems with. But on PC... It's an unstable mess. It's like the quote from the Stallone Judge Dredd movie - "Yours - If you can get it to work." Aside from the glaring issues of crashes on PC, Rebel Galaxy is definitely a game I would honestly call "Required Play" for fans of Elite, WC: Privateer, Freelancer and X.

Low down dirty dog western in space
I really love this game. The soundtrack is what makes it a hit. You can listen to the soundtrack on youtube to get a feel for it but this game is fun. From the opening score, you're instantly transported to a dusty old western town, the sun so bright you're blinded as the tumbleweeds roll by picked up by the hot desert winds. The combat is broadsides and turrets like old naval warfare on a 2d plane. You can go left and right but no up and down. The graphics are fun and up to date if you use a program like re-shade you'll pump the imagery up to amazing. The player starts off with a small ship and through battles and missions gains more credits to upgrade. Several mods exist to allow you to purchase alien items in addition to the normal ones. Each star system is harder than the next. One thing I found to make the game easier is to make a lot of cash running missions then make a mad dash through the systems avoiding everything until you get to a higher system and buy a stronger ship and weapons coming back to the earlier systems and clean up. Each time you visit a station the game is saved. If you die you begin at the last station you were at. There's a back story but I've not played much of that mostly I've been free roaming and picking up bounty contracts. The voice acting is good and there are an assortment of enemies to encounter.

Surprisingly Entertaining
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Rebel Galaxy. It's very simplistic: a combination of space trucking, bounty hunting, mercenary work, and (if you wish) blatant space piracy. The controls are streamlined and straight-forward. It's not a simulator. As others have mentioned, the combat is very similar to Black Flag. It's not fancy and does not pretend to be. It's perfect for when you want to relax and enjoy something that doesn't require a lot of intense focus. It's a very charming little game with a killer Firefly-esque soundtrack that really sets the mood for space shenanigans. Could it be more complex and have more content? Sure. It's not an absolute masterpiece. But it really owns its niche in the gaming market, and it's wonderfully entertaining.
