Description

Help G.I. Ant to gain access to the crazy world of Captain Rat's Treasure Caves.

The game consists of 100 levels of increasing complexity over nine different themed worlds. Each level features several interconnected platforms holding a number of "dominoes". The aim is to rearrange the dominoes, such that with a single push, all of the dominoes are toppled, thus opening the exit to the next level. There are 11 different types of domino, identified by red and yellow patterns, each with different actions. The player controls G.I. Ant, who can move certain dominoes by carrying them one at a time.

Various factors can result in failure to complete a level. As well as toppling all of the dominoes, the player must be able to access the exit door once the dominoes have fallen. For instance, the player will be unable to reach the exit if a ledge leading to the exit has been destroyed, or if a gap leading to the exit has not been bridged, or if a line of dominoes lie across the exit. G.I. Ant may die by falling from a large height, by falling off the bottom of the screen, or by being crushed under a falling domino. The player is then greeted with the message "You Failed, You Died" and has to restart the level. Also, the level will be failed if any dominoes are destroyed by landing one domino on top of another.

Each level has a time limit during which it must be completed. However, if the time runs out the player is still able to continue with the puzzle if they wish. By pausing the game once the time has run out, a small hint will be displayed, giving advice on how to complete the level. As a side note, the hint for level 98 informs the player that the game's designer cannot remember how to complete the level without trickery ("Use a drop! There is a way to make it work with a push, but I can't find it!").

Excellent puzzle-game of the 90's.

I had so much fun with this game during the 90's on the Amiga, though I never got around to finish it. Now, after more than 27 years, I'm having tons of fun again. In this game, you need to move around domino tiles. Most of them are regular domino tiles but there's a dozen different, special ones. Each special one having it's own function. The first 11 levels are tutorial levels for each of these special domino tiles so it starts out very easy but the further you progress, the complexer it gets and you really need to think about how to solve each level. Also, each 11 levels has its own them, both aesthetics and music. Level 100 has its own theme as a bonus. Each level also has a timer. You need to solve each level before the timer reaches 00:00 but the game lets you get over it so you're able to think about the solution of each level. When it's counting down, the timer has a yellow color. When you're over it, it's red and counting up again. You can use a token (which you get for solving each level) to return to the state before pushing a tile, but when you complete the game after that, you won't get the best ending. The game doesn't have a save system but has a classic password system, be sure to note them down when you solve a level (or look them up, but where's the fun in that then?). All in all, I very much enjoyed this game back then but I also still enjoy it these days. I love the nostalgia.

One of the rare Puzzle games I enjoyed

First to clarify I am talking about the basically same game on the Atari ST and Amiga. Technically not this DOS version, but they are the same game with slight differences in presentation. From kid till today, I was never a fan of puzzle games. Ever. There were only a handful I enjoyed playing and Pushover was one of them. The trailer in this page shows the game and what to expect. You have tiles you set/move with your character and try to have them all fall on their side with the last one to do so having to be the "end/unlock tile". Think of Dominoes where you see set them up to push a single one and see all of them fall down in sequence. Same thing, only here there are special tiles and of course special courses. It's a relaxing game, outside of the time limit for each level. If you like me don't like Puzzle games, but only like a handful of them ( Lemmings, Boston Bomb Club, Jumpin' Jackson, Ugh!), then you might also like Pushover. I recommend it and I will probably end up buying this version too.

Pushover addiction!

Pushover is a clever little game. You control an ant and your aim is to push over all the dominoes. The dominoes may be moved (all except the trigger domino) or sometimes dropped. There are regular dominoes which simply falls over, other dominoes explodes, splits in two, vanishes, creates bridges, falls with delay and more. All these different dominoes makes the puzzles varied and, as you might have guessed, the difficulty on the levels range from easy to hard. Hurray! The trigger domino must be the last to fall. When you succeed you will receive a password and may continue to the next level. Visually Pushover features colourful early 90s VGA graphics. If you’re into that you’ll feel right at home here. The graphical themes in the levels change from time to time to keep things fresh. The animations are all right, nothing too fancy. The sound effects are simple and effective. They’re there without making a big deal out of it. Music is nice enough. Not fantastic but it doesn’t bother me either. If you do get tired of it, just blast up the stereo with some quality music. There is a time limit on the levels and I am normally not a fan of time limits. The fun in a puzzle game like this is solving the puzzle, not worrying whether you’re thinking and moving fast enough. But ok, it is what it is. If time runs out, the game lets you continue playing and once you’ve figured out what to do it’s only a matter of time of doing things fast enough. Another thing that I find a bit annoying is that there is a no way to skip the intro when you start the game. If you like your little grey cells to be challenged I have a feeling you might actually love this game. It’s a relaxing game (ok, can be frustrating if you’re completely stuck) and the kind of game you load up with a cup of coffee (or tea, or whatever you like) and have a go. Pushover is a great puzzle game. Highly recommended!

28 years since I last played this!

I remember playing this on my Uncle's Amiga back in the 90's, it was a real highlight. It's a really intuitive and fun puzzle game. You have to find a way to arrange the dominoes, so that with one push you can knock them all down, with a special block that has to go last. There are a few varieties of blocks, ones that bridge gaps, ones that float straight up, ones that make holes in the ground, and more. The game times you, and you need to complete the puzzle before the time runs out, but don't worry if you need to think, you can over run and then restart the level with no penalty. The only gripe I had is that I can't find a way to skip the opening cutscene, which seems to just be a commercial for Quavers. Other than that, a solid blast from the past.

Superb Puzzle Game

I don't buy that copy by GOG, or maybe I will do, but right now I am ok with original box that I got during kid days. The 100 level are amazing, consider the first 10 as tutrial to discover the bricks functionally and then play the real game from 11 to 100. Those puzzle are awesome and well made then I suggest to try that :D
