The beginning of the end
Let us be clear: After Forgotten Sands, this is by far the worst Prince of Persia game Ubisoft did release back in 2005; and this was the beginning of Ubisoft's quality drop and their infamous DRM-Policy. A lot of hype was brought up by Ubisoft due to their amazing demo presentation and marketing during E3. You can find some of the presentation on youtube, they practically promised you everything in this finale: Dynamic stealth kills, switchable gamecharacters (Dark and Light Prince), chariot races in the style of Ben Hur, improved Free-Form-Fighting-System, a really great story, heck, they promised an OPEN WORLD BABYLON! BABYLON, DUDE! But...for whatever reason, may it be the short developement period, budget cuts, or a retarded marketing approach to annoyingly voiceful fanatic Sands of Time fans with no life, the direction has made a complete paradigm change: The more twilightish tone has been uplifted, the already finished Dark Prince has been redesigned, the stealth system modeled to QTE, textures and models worked over, and the game is completely linearish, and...well, they rewrote the story. Yep, so it became more SoT-ish than serious. They even managed to reduce the combat system than to advance it. And the game is haunted by glitches and bugs, worse than WW, and the game is by far the shortest of the trilogy. You can finish the game in less than 3-4 hours. This was the game supposed to synthesise both Sands of Time and Warrior Within to bring a twilight-theme, and for whatever reason they screwed up the near finished game during half-way developement. It is more like the synthesis of the WORST things of BOTH games. The "Kindred Blades" version, the working title during E3, looked a lot BETTER THAN THIS. Screens, designs, trailers, and interviews confirm that. And let's not forget the atrocious Star Force DRM, which also haunted Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. But enought of that. Okay, now that this has been cleared, here's what you can win out of this game. For instance, the soundtrack is still high quality. Pretty meh compared to the former titles, but you can still enjoy them. Second, the chariot races were still kept (although they looked better on the E3-Demo) and still made some fun. Third, puzzles are back, they only strong point of this title. Fourth, Yuri voicing the Prince again. As for the rest...nope, pretty short and linearish, the dialogues are pretty plain (except for the remarks of the Dark Prince), glitchy as hell, it gets repetitive fast, playing as the Dark Prince is annoying as fuck due to the feature of loosing life on a time span, and last but not least, it is nothing what it was promised for. They only people who praise this game are mostly delusioned Sands of Time fans and bought up critics. And you should inform yourself if this game is censored or not. Ubisoft released two version of this gane, the US-Version is uncensored while the EU-Version is censored. The EU-Version is also the only available item on Steam and other online plattforms. I am not sure about you, but as much as I am a hardcore PoP-fan, I am waiting till this game is on a discount, Ubisoft shouldn't get paid for their trash. Buy only Warrior Within and Sands of Time full price. PS.: While I hate this game so much, I stand in the credits. I was part of the Swordsmen community which Ubisoft creatured during developement, and I won an entry staying in the credits. Oh, the irony of humiliation
