Quick time quicksand

After the amazing gameplay-wise, but highly critisized art style-wise Warrior Within, Ubisoft did the usual choic for trilogies - tried to make "the best of two". And failed more, than succeeded. The old voice actor is back, more "fairy-tale/magical" feel is back, no more dark, broody, bloody, godsmack-y Prince. It should be good, but it somehow isn't. The game throws out the style of WW, which, while quite silly at times, was very stylish, but at the same time doesn't know how to recapture the feel of Sands of Time. Gameplay-wise, it tries to do something similar, again with rather average results. Prince, somehow, becomes incredibly weak against enemies, forcing him to do stealth kills and a lot of quick time events at that, something that will become (in a different cover) a staple of the later Prince of Persia 2008 and Assassin's Creed series. But where Assassin's Creed design is inoffensively dumb and, actually, very fun to play with, action parts of TTT with Prince are more of an annoyance. Dark Prince is nothing truly new, taking mechanics from the Sand Wrath Prince of WW and mixing it with a whip-like weapon. He's a bit more fun to play with, but still feels more like a good concept, which wasn't completed to full potential. It still is a rather good game, but, as a more recent Forgotten Sands, it feels more like a "filler" game. Like it has an amazing potential, waiting to be unlocked, but some time and budget cuts. In this case, the problem may have laid in the move to the newer generation titles, or in the fact, that originally it was supposed to be a more darker, Warrior Within-styled game, which was redesigned to be more like Sands of Time. It is fun for completing the Sands Trilogy. It is fun for running along the walls and completing the puzzles. But it's not very fun to play in terms of action. And it could've been much more.

More of the same, with some added flaws

The Two Thrones tries to be a compromise between the two previous games in the series, mixing the platforming and overall feel of Sands of Time with the combat of Warrior Within. Unfortunately, the game is not quite equal to the sum of its parts. The platforming is certainly enjoyable, but comes of as being little more than a rehash of Sands of Time. Meanwhile, the combat is fun but ultimately marred by copious amounts of quicktime events, which quickly become infuriating. It should also be noted that the PC port is a bit lousy, especially in the controls department, and I would recommend using a gamepad. Finally, the game is rather short, taking about 10 hours to complete on a first playthrough, and does not offer much in the way of replay value. Overall, The Two Thrones is a decent game that recommends itself to players who want more of Ubisoft's Prince series. However, I would hazard that most people would be better served by simply playing Sands of Time.

Pretty good

I played and finished all the Prince of Persia games. This game is not as bad as everyone says. I remember playing it when it first came out and it was a fun game, good graphics and gameplay. If you're a fan of the series, you'll like this one as well.

A good game, with some flaws

Prince of Persia: The two thrones was the result of Ubisoft going back to the "More traditional" PoP formula. Warrior within was a "Dark and Mature" design choice that many people complained about so Ubisoft made the next game "More like sands of time" which is great but unfortunately this game lacks some of the things that made Sands of Time so great. Let's start off with the Plot, the plot tries to wrap up and continue the ridiculous plot of Warrior Within and has contradictions and plotholes in the storyline, needless to say that even with this, the plot of this game is OK at best, you will meet some very familiar faces from Sands of Time but the story takes ages to go anywhere so keep that in mind Gameplay wise it introduces new things but lets us down in other familiar ones. The Two thrones introduces the "Dual prince" system which as you progress through the game chances the price and his gameplay styles, I found the "Dark" prince to be much more fun than the normal one but be warned that as you play as this powerful "Dark" Prince, your health Depletes so you have to be quick and think fast. Other additions to the gameplay include "Stealth Kills". Various new acrobatic moves and chariot racing. While the new additions are very welcome, unfortunately the whole experience does not feel as polished, dynamic and fluid as Sands of Time, the game is still enjoyable to play but has many things that slow down the game or make it tedious in places. The Puzzle elements would probably be on Par with Sands of Time. This game however is better than Warrior within as you do not have to revisit old places and backtrack, so that's good. Bosses are more frequent than Sands of Time and they are well designed. No complaints there Graphics wise: This game isn't really a huge improvement over WW or SoT but it's still enjoyable to look at with various effects and cool cinematics, unfortunately the game lacks the attention to detail and polish as Sands of Time Sound wise: Mediocre, Two Thrones has some very good music and effects here and there but the overall presentation is bland and forgettable, the Prince Voice Actor does the job very well though as do other actors Lastability: The game will take you a bit longer to complete than Sands of Time and it has the same "Hidden Sand" for you to find to completely power-up if you feel like going for a second playthrough, nothing too big but it's there Overall: This game is better than Warrior Within but unfortunately lacks the polish and extremely fluid gameplay from Sands of Time. Still, enjoyable and reccomended to Prince of Persia fans 4 out of 5 Star Rating

Disappointing, but I still recommend it

With SoT and WW being some of my favorite games of all time, perhaps my expectations were too high for Two Thrones. That said, I still find it lacking in many areas. First, let's state the good things: the parkour is as inventive and satisfying as ever and the story--though I heartily dislike the beginning--has a great climax and is a satisfying end to the Sands Trilogy. Also, the dialogue and conflict between the Prince and his dark alter-ego is well-written and is probably my favorite part of the story. The biggest problem is that the gameplay--refined to near perfection in WW--has been dumbed down for some utterly baffling reason. The attacks are no longer as accurate or well animated, making it much harder to string together the satisfying acrobatic/weapon combos that made WW so much fun. Worse, the Prince is much weaker than in previous games and often dependent on dry, QTE stealth kills to stand a chance against his enemies. The boss battles are also not nearly as satisfying or fun as though in WW, most using QTE's in the place of actually gameplay to finish off bosses. It does have a slight redeeming factor with the Dark Prince, who does play differently than the regular Prince, and carving your way through a horde of enemies with your chain-whip does carry a charm to it. This might be a nitpick, but I also was annoyed by the fact your primary weapon is the Dagger of Time through essentially the entire game. Remember how satisfying it was in previous titles to pick up a new, more powerful sword and test it out? No such variety here, and that staleness is only made worse because the Dagger is clearly inferior to other swords the Prince has used in the other titles. I can't say TT's combat is bad, it certainly stands above that of other lesser 3rd-person action games, but I don't understand how it could be worse when the previous game in this series was a textbook example of how to do it perfectly!
