Keep Calm and Live On

Yes. It is true. You cannot die in this game. That seems to be the biggest complaint people have about this game. But ask yourself, does is really make a difference? So there is no extra loading screen, so you don't have to go back to the last checkpoint, so what? Everything else in this game is amazing. The game play is fun and addicting. The story is interesting and the characters are fun. The graphics and art style are gorgeous. No loading screen, no arbitrary checkpoints? No problem.

Heard bad things, but...

I have to say that I was extremely impressed with this game. The "can't die" mechanic seems to be driven into the ground with all the other reviews, but it helps support the more "trial and error" aspects of the level design (which is good). In a way, it's kind of how a game like "Super Meat Boy" respawns you instantaneously if you die. It doesn't make the game easy. It makes it not a chore. The levels are fun to explore and I really enjoyed the seamless transition from one area to the next. It created a great, big world where every nook and cranny opened up new possibilities. Everything in this game lends itself to that exploration. Still, it feels like a "Prince of Persia" game. Really enjoying it so far!

Beautifully pointless...

The game is, at best, a 3D platformer with beautiful visuals, a nice backstory told throughout the game, a nice soundtrack and a large environment. At worst... where do I begin? The main story is average, the combat system is riddled with a lot of combos you have to memorize, there aren't that many enjoyable puzzles, the routes to take feel too straightforward for how large the different areas are and... no matter how hard you try, dying is not possible in this game, because you have your companion Elika (that not only assist you in combat, but also in platforming) that will rescue you EVERY SINGLE TIME. What makes it worse is the ending, without spoilers, it ruins the entire purpose of the game. Don't bother with this one, I'd recommend playing the trilogy.

I liked it much more than Sands of Time

pity Prince did not convince the Princess he is just in love with her and she was more important than the world and those empty cities she was trying to save. There is continuation of the story, but sadly on console only, I guess you can watch some playthroughs. Really-really liked art and level design, visual style was great, platforming was smooth, combat was okay. Two confusing parts: those action icons - never could remember them and confusing save system, I advise you after healing the land, save at it, and if you do some orb collecting, teleport to some other place and save to keep the progress. Loved the game.

Going in the wrong direction

I love most of this franchise. There’s absolutely no doubt that it had grown stagnant before this was released. However, it's willingness to take something and run with it doesn't change that it's going in the wrong direction. This is entirely too streamlined feeling like a vaguely interactive movie more than a video game. Like it was made when FMVs were mistaken for games. Almost nothing you do has consequences or requires skill beyond basic timing. The one thing it gets right is that as usual we get at least one puzzle that does actually require you to think about what you're doing you can't simply brute force it. Combat lacks tension, and it feels very odd how little of it there is considering you’re presented with a world that is being taken over by pure evil. Platforming responds to the series having gotten to where you basically could do almost anything that it would be at all credible for you to do by simply moving eagerly past that point. You can literally run upside down. Not far but still. You can move on the ceiling. And I'm not talking about when there's magic enabling you to move on walls for longer than otherwise; that's explained. I do appreciate that whilst clearly they wrote dozens of lines of dialogue, some of it world-building, some that grows the relationship between the Prince and Princess, they did take into account that many of us would find a lot of this to be vapid to the point of not wanting to hear very much of it. And yeah the vast majority of it you are not forced to listen to. Like many other games it is usually tied to specific places. You know, you'll go to an important part of the kingdom and then you can be told stuff about that area. However, if you want to hear it you have to prompt it to tell you. Which means that if you don't, you truly do not have to. And you don't even have to find a setting in the menu to turn off voice stuff. The cel shaded graphics work with the score and sound design to create a consistent atmosphere.
