Great modern classic crpg

finished pillars 1 and 2 with all dlcs respectively and pretty much all sidequests that are possible within one playthrough each. Pillars 1 is great by all accounts. It starts slow, but builds everything nicely and the mid-section of the game is very strong. Up to par with any rpg right now. PC optimization is an issue though, frequent long loading times, abundance of useless texts, fps breakdowns slowed and skewed my experience. Only thing really bothering me, and only thing stopping me from giving five stars, was the companions personalty, interactions with each other and the world. Otherwise it is worth a few playthroughs, and certainly the price, as well as is the white March. Great dlc all around. Well done obsidian

Wildy Inconsistent

I am at 65 hours currently and have the intention of finishing the game. The story is ok. There are some very well written quests and dialogue. Lot s of lore if you are the type to read everything as I am. My issue is the combat inconsistency. The game starts fine. But at this stage things are either way too easy or way too difficult. It does a terrible job scaling enemies. I travelled to a few quests only to be absolutely merced so I loaded a previous save and knew I better avoid them for now. Moving to another area, there is a notice I am at a higher level and can increase the difficulty for a challenge. I do that, and again get completely smacked down. So I have no choice but to reload AGAIN, choose not to take the higher diffculty, and just saunter through the easy enemies. It is a shame because the game is great otherwise.

Surprise Hit.

How great this game was - really took me by surprise. When it starts - I felt lost, and it kind of goes in and out as to what you should be doing - and then the weird visions - but soon the lore and story really comes into focus - you begin meeting interesting NPCs and the lore continues to develop - and before you know it, you're full immersed into the world of Pillars of Eternity having an incredible time, doing some incredible battles! Some fights were INSANELY difficult (dragon down at the bottom - you will know when you get there) - but when you finally pull it off (and it's possible - took me about 20 times! But I did it! And it's not a required fight!) - you will feel a great sense of achievement! This game has great stories, great characters, the lore is just amazing! Easy to lose yourself in this game.

Wanted to like it...

I wanted to like this and I've tried to finish it a few times but never actually finished the main game much less the DLC. I think it was the game mechanics that turned me off the most (i.e. Might=DPS for everyone). Normally a good story would still keep me invested but it felt lackluster to me. The premise could have been interesting if executed well, but I felt like it was trying too hard to tick those nostalgia boxes.

I prefered Baldur's Gate

No Nostalgia glasses either, I played that game for the first time in 2019. Overall very fun, quite original setting, and premise. Great history Main story? Unengaging DLC was excellent though
