Welcome home, pardner! We've been waiting for you here in the town of Sanctuary. Take your boots off and sit a spell. Ex-Marshal James Anderson lived a quiet life with his wife and daughter. One black day that life was shattered by a fancy-dressed, greed driven land baron intent on plowing down his farm to make way for the railroad. Now Anderson's driven by revenge, which he'll exact in a spray of gunfire.
Get ready for the good, the bad, and the even worse. As Marshall James Anderson, you'll face a horde of ornery, gun-slinging outlaws. You'll shoot your way through a twisted plot of greed and revenge. You'll arm yourself with firearms, as well as your wits. So go ahead, and make your day.
Highly stylized characters with distinct personalities and weapons.
Gameplay involving puzzle solving to tease the mind as well as the trigger finger.
Combines first-person Gun Slinging Action and Wild West Adventure in one game.

Refer to the other reviews to get info on the gameplay and game quality, this review is a heads up that once you buy and install the game you should make some changes to improve how it looks and feels.
Before you launch the game look under 'Additonal Executables' and you will see two different config programs. Open up both and make sure to disable BOTH textue filtering options. When enabled all the textures look blurry and smeared, turning off filtering gives you those crisp pixels that look so much better.
You should also be sure to fix the aspect ratio, by default it stretches the original 4:3 video to match your monitors aspect ratio and everything looks stretched and wrong.
Once you've got those options set you can enjoy this charming western retro shooter!
First off, just to echo the recommendation of another user:
"Before you launch the game look under 'Additonal Executables' and you will see two different config programs. Open up both and make sure to disable BOTH textue filtering options. Secondly, set the game to "Bad", which is the middle difficulty, as it'll give you what I would consider the full/real experience of the game. "Good" ( the easiest setting ) is just way too easy as you can run around and melee/knife enemies with little/no recourse. The "Bad" difficulty can be a bit wacky, but it makes it into an almost tactical sort of experience where you'll need to occasionally think about your next move and each encounter can be deadly.
Okay, so if you like Westerns and shooters, you'll like this game. The sound design and especially music is phenomenal. Each weapon sounds/feels like it hits like a ton of bricks. The pistol also has a nifty secondary fire where you fan the hammer like you're Charles Bronson in Once Upon a Time in the West. It's a fun game. The tone of the game strikes a good balance between humor and seriousness. It's a loving homage to the major Western tropes. You will also get your money's worth, as I'd say the main story mode will take 6+ hours if you don't save scum too much and play on "Bad". I haven't delved too much into the extra content, but it seems pretty fun as well. Some of the menus and things were a little finnicky for me, but nothing too annoying.
Just to ramble on a bit more, I do like this game, but I kinda wish they had incorporated a few more story/RPG elements. A hub town could've worked well. The ability to deputize NPCs could've been fun ( that's what I initially thought a sheriff star was for ). It's unfortunate we never got a sequel for this as there's a ton of untapped potential.
They really don't make these games like they used to! This was made by LucasArts, back when they put real effort into what games they made. It also brings back a great amount of nostalgia as my friend's older brother played this and I remember the fun animated scenes, however, there was so much more to it when I actually got to playing this.
You play as John Marsdon. Ex-Marshall who was let go after killing a group of thugs before they could give state's evidence and when he goes out shopping, a gang attack his home, wanting him to sell the property, but they go too far as they burn down his home, kill his wife and kidnap his daughter (Voiced by Lil Pickles' voice actor) and now he's on a path for revenge, trying to chase after his daughter and killing every bandit that gets in his way.
The bosses in this game are different in how you approach each one, but also, on the hard difficulty you can die very easily, yet the same is said for the bandits too. The pest tactic is to use cover when you can and the appropriate weapon for the right situation. Not to mention, alternate fire is a great way to get some milage out of weapons like using the rapid fire function on the revolver, the scope on the rifle and shooting either both or one barrel on a double-barreled shotgun.

What's that? That up-to-no-good goof that is hating on all the old cult classic has actually liked one of them? A hitscan-heavy shooter while at it? An action kind of hitscan-abuse? Even actually liking a LucasArts game for once?
Yep. Miracles happen.
Well, I actually thought that it's trash at first, mostly because I was expecting the enemy AI to be on the Doom/Wolfenstein level. The kind that always knows your location and just always chases you nearly directly. However, after a while I read game guide and then played the first level on hardest and it finally clicked as I saw the AI being more advanced for Doom-like game. For example, some enemies would set ambush near door but then they will reach slower if you approach them from a side. Tactical AI with weaknesses, the best kind. Taking covers when they know they are being shot at and aggresive rushing whent hey think you are busy. Knowing from a guide that even devs themselves were crouching 90% of times helped too.
So it's overall turned out to be a really fun mix between action and tactic. A good mix, where it's neither too slow nor too fast. Flanking, sniping, all the good fun.
Plus, unlike 90s PC games that kept shoving levels until you were sick of them in main campaign, this one has shorter campaign of just 9 levels. Fun levels. With cutscenes. Albeit it comes with extra missions if you will want more.
But then it's not all roses either. You may still want to quickscam occasionally. Mostly in extra missions however. But what truly sucks are boss fights. It's just tough baddies that may randomly instakill you. Joyyyyy. Oh, and some levels like train where it's just a straight line without flanking, yew. Oh, and weapons aren't that balanced.
But overall I kept looking toward playing one more level every day and then it ended when I was starting to get sick of it after all the extra levels. Doesn't happen often with hitscan old FPS, so it's a real good one.
