Tired and Tedious
Not only is "an insane asylum" far too frequently used for horror genres, but the game itself is manages to do nothing exciting. Exploring comes down to two things: running away and hiding. With 0 variation between these two methods. Do yourself a favor and skip over this one unless you're absolutely ravenous for a game concept that should have been retired a decade ago.

A good horror game
Having played the firt game and the dlc, I can see that Outlast 2 is a technical improvement from the first one, but, Outlast 2's story isn't nearly as good as the first one and the characters are just not as iconic as the first game's villains and protagonist, still, a good and fun horror game to play anytime.

Decent, but not as good as the first.
I was quite excited for this game when it was announced. I absolutely loved the first Outlast game and wanted nothing more than a successor to this series. Now that I got it, I have to say that I am a little dissappointed. Outlast 2 just doesn't seem to have the same scare factor as the previous one did and for me, that's a problem. This game overall is a decent enough game, worth the money if you can catch it on sale and it does have it's high points too. But the lows, unfortunately, outweigh the highs. I didn't like the entire premise of the story in general (won't go into too much detail in that regards as I don't want to spoil anything for those that are still planning on buying this game) and the enemies that this game has you going up against just falls flat compared to some of the baddies from the first. As you can tell, I am doing a lot of comparing to the previous game, and I do believe that is where all of my gripes are coming from. So with all of that said, if you're able to approach this game open-minded and are able to view this as a standalone title then I do think you can have a pretty good time here with Outlast 2.

A cat and mouse chase bananza
Not as memorable as the first title. Predictable sections with frustrating gameplay. Loveley design and sound, though. Story? A little over the edge. I've seen better.

Acting, sound design and atmosphere are good but that’s where my praise ends. Half of the game is spent on retrospections which have no connection to the events at hand. They do not lead anywhere and are a chore to play through. It seems like the developers run out of ideas and added them as a filler. Because of the above, the actual plot is underdevloped. While the notes and the protagonist’s ruminations do shed some light, they’re entirely optional elements. Moreover, obtaining them is not always possible because of enemies. Lastly, they violate the “show, don’t tell” rule. The game limits your escape options significantly. Oftentimes, you’re not allowed deviate from the predetermined path which results in a frustrating experience, dying over and over again to learn what the game wants you to do. The gameplay has hardly been expanded on since the previous installment. The environment isn’t interactive enough—you should be able to use it to your advantage to escape from your pursuers. As far as the “horror” aspect goes—the game relies too heavily on gore and jumpscares.
