In summer 1937, renewed tensions between Japan and China escalate into open war: The Second Sino-Japanese war has begun.
Order of Battle: WWII comes back to the Pacific Theatre, covering one of the cruellest but most underrated conflicts of the Second World War period.
In Order of Battle: Morning Sun you take control over the Japanese forces fighting for territorial expansion and rich Chinese resources. The conflict soon turns into a massive all-out war between the two sides during the Battle of Shanghai. While the Chinese forces are numerically superior, they have suffered from internal conflict and are poorly equipped with outdated weapons. The recently modernised Japanese Army on the other hand is well trained and experienced, but as the war drags on it gets increasingly overstretched, allowing the enemy to regain the initiative at several occasions...
New units
Japanese armies have been reinforced with several new units including biplane fighters and bombers such as the Ki-10, D1A and A4N1, the Sōkō Sagyō Ki flamethrower-equipped engineering vehicle and Type 89 medium tanks. The Chinese rely heavily on foreign arms deals, resulting in a diverse arsenal made up from Soviet Polikarpov fighters, Tupolev bombers and T-26 tanks, German Panzer I's, Sdkfz 221/222 armoured cars and 37mm PaK guns, Italian L3/33 tankettes, British Gloster Gladiators and many more. Nations now also have access to Cavalry units and Horse Transportation for towed guns. In total, almost 100 new unit types have been added to the game.

This theater saw some of the most intense fighting that took place in ww2 and 'before the war.' You play as the Japanese and it is a heavy infantry fighting campaign. I found the campaign to be well done, good atmosphere and a pleasure to play. Grab it if you are looking for infantry and urban siege based fighting.
Morning Sun starts in 1937 when Japan attacked Beijing (Beiping) in China, so that means we have here a lot of pre WW2 units, for exemple the Chinese army have some FT17 tanks (French WW1 tanks !!!), a lot of pre WW2 old planes.
The Chinese have a bigger number but their army is crappy and not very well equiped, they use mostly some imported armamement like Italians canons, German Panzer I, Soviet T-26 1933 Version tanks, English Hawke III planes or Soviet Polikarpov planes, on the other hand the Japanese have less soldiers but their equipement is more modern and better, they have a good infantry (they can do Banzai charges), they have some pre WW2 tanks like the Type 89 etc.
So we have a lot of old stuff and equipement and that's very funny to play because it's different from what we know, for most of us we only know the stuff from WW2 so here we can learn and see something new.
The missions are nice, we have 2 missions with some landings on the coast of China but it's mostly some heavy infantry fights on the mainland of China and that's pretty much cool.
And you can keep your army and import it to Rising Sun. So buy Morning Sun and Rising Sun and play it one after another.
Extremely enjoyable, the Sino-Japanese war was, imo, a really important frontline of the Pacific Theatre of WW2 and still it's neglected by most media, it was an extreme fun to play!
