New port for 2016

We've re-ported the game for 2016, which now runs at 60 FPS, includes higher resolution textures, better quality cut-scenes, improved audio, higher poly models, numerous fixes and improvements!

About the game

You'll guide Mudokon champion Abe, and his aquatic Gabbit partner Munch, in Oddworld's third adventure, using special psychic powers, cool power-ups, and other special abilities to deliver payback as they reclaim the last gabbit eggs on Oddworld, which have been packaged in a can of gabbiar.
  • Play as a team - use Munch and Abe cooperatively to make your way through the trials of Oddworld. Leverage both characters' unique strengths:
  • Abe- Abe can climb and jump to reach new areas, and then run to escape from dangerous enemies. When all else fails, chant to take control of the enemy's soul, and use their guns to clear a path to safety.
  • Munch - Munch can swim around the new realms of Oddworld. When on the ground, zip along with a wheelchair power up. Need to move some yapping Slogs out of the way? Just use Munch's nifty remote control head port to fire up the crane and drop those Sloggies in their pen.
  • Special psychic powers - Munch and Abe's psychic powers can extend their reach and get others to do the dirty work:
  • As Abe - Let Abe's chant roar to take possession of a gun-toting Big Bro Slig and clear almost anything out of the way. Abe can use spooce or spiritual power gained byharvesting SpooceShrubs to posses other creatures as well, but why think small?
  • As Munch - If Abe can't mesmerize someone into getting the job done, Munch can use his handy remote control head port to hijack nearby machines including cranes, and 50-caliber Anesthesia bots to tackle the really tough obstacles.
  • Power-Ups – Every friendly character you can find becomes a fighting ally, Fuzzles, Mudokons…. Need to get somewhere quickly or get over a wall, like right now? Use Oddworld's consumer power-ups like Expresso and Bounce to amp up Munch and Abe's abilities to perform cool moves. For the more direct approach, possess high-caliber weapon toting enemies.
  • Oddworld, now in "new and improved 3D!" - it's a whole new Oddworld, with lush rivers, towering mountains and hundreds of trees that bloom or die.
  • Interact with dozens of different oddball races - use GameSpeak® to get Oddworld's Inhabitants from the heavily armed Big Bro Sligs to the cute but ferocious Fuzzles) to carry out tricky tasks or just beat the crap out of enemies.
  • "Frustration Free" gaming - Oddworld's new intelligent cinematic camera, auto-targeting system and no-stick navigation system makes playing a breeze! Plus with easy
  • QuikSave® and limitless lives, players have plenty of chances to take on any situation… no matter how Odd!

Weakest of the Oddworld series

Munch's Oddysee was the main reason for me to get an X-Box back in the day. The artstyle and worldbuilding is particularly creative and fun in all Oddworld games and Munch's Oddysee is no exception. Munch's Oddysee takes place on Oddworld, an alien planet inhabited by different 'intelligent' species, like the spiritual Mudokons, the capitalistic & greedy Glukkons, the trigger happy Sligs, Scrabs, Paramites, Gabbits,... the creators built up a whole breathing ecosystem. In this game you control both Abe and Munch, two different native species who try to escape the industrial landscape of Oddworld. Munch is the last of it's kind, a Gabbit. the main goal is to obtain the last can of Gabbiar (Gabbit Eggs) that is set to be auctioned. there are a lot of interesting features in this game, like for example, the player can earn good Quarma by rescuing his fellows or bad Quarma by killing them. this will lead to multiple endings in the game. Abe can possess various enemies with his mind, Munch on the other hand can possess various machines. the main difference between this game and the first two are the graphics. unfortunately the transition from 2d to 3d didn't go all that well. navigating can be frustrating at times (mostly because of the camera) but it's nothing too damaging for the whole game experience. all the other elements make up for this flaw. I can't say much about this port, but recent steam reviewers point out, that the new port seems to work fine. So expect a fun, creative, lenghty 3d plattformer that is odd most of the time and will make you love the main characters. even if it's the weakest of the whole franchise, it's a very solid game that will entertain you.

Abe now meets basic 3D requirements

Munch's Oddysee may seem like an odd (no pun intended) beast at a glance: here you have the very first 3D game in the series... and it throws most of the important Oddworld elements into the bin. And yet, thinking about it, it makes sense. Some game mechanics were removed, some added. For the most part, the mechanics that were removed were also the ones that would have been most difficult to translate to 3D. One-hit deaths in a far less precise enviroment? Let me point out that not even the venerable Super Mario 64 had the guts to attempt that. Instead, you wisely get a health bar this time around. There's no falling damage or precise jump puzzles either, and this too was probably for the best, seeing as 3D platforming is never quite as precise as its 2D counterpart. Some other missing series staples are harder to forgive. Scrabs and Paramites are relegated to one small level each, and you can't even possess them. Sligs and Glukkon possession has also been drastially reduced in scope. On the other hand, new enemies have entered the fray - and new allies too. And this time, Abe's friends can actually defend themselves, and they can kick some can too! But your allies' lack of jumping skills may make the attack sections somewhat prone to annoyance, since you'll need to pick them up one at a time and throw them yourself. In fact, the whole game has a padding problem: some challenges, that would be nice if you only had to do them once or twice, are repeated ad nauseam. Like throwing Mudokons over a fence? Do that eight times. What about throwing eggs in a container with a crane? Well, there are like thirty of them at one point. Enjoy. Doesn't seem like a big problem, but it hurts. As for the rest... graphics are still serviceable enough, sound is disappointing. Music is too understated. Voices can be difficult to hear, too. It's not the best in the series, but this often-maligned entry has charm and its own reason for existing. Give it a whirl, keeping an open mind.

Not the best Oddworld title, still good

Munch's Oddysee is the third game of the Oddworld series, where you are on a quest to retrieve the last can of Gabbiar, which is basically the last chance for your species to survive. In this game you can control both Abe and Munch, and you have to switch between them during missions to continue, helping each other out. Abe can jump high and possess creatures, while Munch can swim and operate machines. The puzzles are good, but can be a little monotonous after a while, and there are a few annoying sections too. Unlike the first two games, which were 2D platforming ones, this game is fully 3D. Switching to the third dimension was quite OK, most of the time you can control your characters fine, but the camera can be a nuisance, and it's not without glitches. The graphics are pretty basic, especially the environment is quite barren and boring, but it gets the job done. You have to rescue your buddies too, Abe's job to lead the mudokon scrubs to freedom, and Munch can rescue Fuzzles, which seem cute, but they can bite quite hard, if you order them. You can get two endings (like in the previous games) depending how many of your friends you rescued. So overall it's a good game, but I still prefer the 2D ones for the much more fluent controls, diverse and beautiful environments, and better plot. Also, I didn't find Munch a very likeable character, unlike Abe. Play the first two games, but if you want some more odd action, get this after them.

Great game but garbage port

This "new" PC port is just wrong on so many levels. Many things are incomplete and inconsistent, mixes stuff from both the mobile and PS3 ports, they cant even port over the PS3 version which was fully HD, and they didnt even re-encode from the og's .bik video files properly (they sound and look horrible, which is a shame because the cutscenes make up the entirety of the game's plotline). Also many of the levels/maps have their lighting brightened which completely screws with the original's atmosphere. If you want the OG experience get on ebay and find an og xbox disc or get the PS3/Vita HD version. note: if you want the most original experience as intended on PC then sadly you need to get the Steam version as that still contains the original direct from Xbox port, located at the "original" branch in the beta tab for the game, although slightly buggy it is more stable than whatever the trash you can call what Sq*re1 did. Also I find it really odd how they are literally selling this hot garbage on physical Switch cartridges, yikes!

An Odd Terrible Port!

I can not stress enough how much I hated playing this version of what would be a fine game that originally came out on the original Xbox. Despite being playable with some improved model textures, there's quite a lot of things wrong with this version of Munch's Oddysee. Most of the in-game music does not work properly, it's like the game is struggling to start the music, some of the game sounds have been changed such as Munch's Hop sound and Scrabs now sounding like horses which I find to be really odd (no pun intended), the hitbox for telling fuzzles/mudokons to attack is a bit short, the cinematic cutscenes I was extremely disappointed to find are very poorly compressed in quality but the worst problem of all is that the game is prone to crashing now and then. This is a very unacceptable port and I would not recommend it to anyone!
