Description
An excellent action/RPG hybrid with very unique gameplay. Your name is Jack Mower, a 20th century dude who just happened to be sucked into the world of Nox via his TV set. The world is in danger and you have to save it! But before you embark on your epic journey you must choose your path: warrior, wizard, or conjurer.

Choose the path of a warrior, and you will be able to equip and use all manner of swords, battle-axes, war hammers, and chakrams - though you’ll leave the magical mumbo-jumbo up to the Conjurer and Wizard classes. An enchanted weapon is the closest a Warrior gets to magic but that’s OK, because magic is for sissies.

As a Wizard you will explore the mystical art of spell casting, ranging from enemy-confounding illusions to devastating displays of metaphysical force. You’ll also learn to set magical traps containing deadly spell combinations to thwart the unsuspecting foe. Although you’ll have to renounce the use of ungainly swords and armor in the name of your art, you will still be able to wield a staff as a last-ditch physical defense.

If you choose a Conjurer you will be able to magically charm and summon creatures to do your bidding. You can even create a magical creature called a bomber which can wreak sorcerous havoc on your enemies. You’ll also get plenty of experience wielding staves and bows to fend off the few enemies who manage to slip past your minions.

Throwback Thursday Recommendation

We share the earnest reasons that make a classic game so dear to us!

Recommended by Kilg0re_Tr0ut from GOG Stream Team: Nox is a truly underrated game from Westwood Studios. Often written off as a "Diablo-clone", this is really a unique quest oriented action RPG. You play Jack, a young man who (along with his TV) is accidentally teleported to Nox by the evil Hecubah, and it is your job to right things in Nox and eventually defeat her. The story and gameplay adapts to accommodate one of three different character classes you have to choose from, the Warrior, who can't use magic, but has access to all armor and weapon types (except bows and staves), the Conjurer, who can use bows and crossbows, can use some spells, but specialize in summoning monsters that can fight alongside them, and the Wizard class, who specialize in the vast majority of spells in the game, and can even teleport and become invisible. This adds tremendous replayability as playing the game with each character makes for a completely different experience, basically giving you three games in one. Easy to get into, Nox is highly recommended for fans of the genre."

Epic Story!!!

i Play this game since 2001 and i still play it i never get bored while playing it , it's story is epic and the sound track too, it's hardly to see someone know this game but i am sure that anyone would like it,It is not another game like "diablo" ofcorse there is similar things but u mainly based on story mode there is only few optional missions and that doesn't make it bad game because there is lots of secrets, hidden chest and even rare gears. this game brings me awesome memories since it was my first game i have ever played

Beautiful, Fun, Enchanting

Nox, simply put, is the perfect fantasy romp. From the lava encased Gauntlet of Dun Mir to the barren frozen wastes of the North, my experiences in the land of Nox have been engaging, memorable and challenging, forever etched in my mind as a truly wonderful episode from my gaming history. My earliest memories of PC gaming consist of three games: Cossacks, Worms and Nox, the latter being by far my favourite due to it's immense charm and beautifully clichéd fantasy world. The game's three classes (and corresponding stories) each provide a unique experience, whether that be berserker charging head-first into a troll as a warrior, electrocuting a horde of pebble-lobbing urchins as a wizard or hypnotising a wolf-sized scorpion as a conjurer, allowing for the player to delve into three separate quests within the magical world. The land in which these adventures take place is permeated by wonderful settings and a visual feast of effects, inhabited by a host of Aussie accented shopkeepers and NPCs who will, if plied with gold and favours, aid you in defeating the evil necromancer Queen: Hecubah. I could ramble on about this game forever, but right now I'm going to sum up the reasons for getting this feature into three points: 1. Fast-paced and well balanced gameplay 2. An amazing fantasy setting, easy to get lost in for hours on end. 3. Wonderfully well balanced for and enjoyable experience, no matter how skilled the gamer. Now go! Retrieve your cards and pay for this game. Don't you bother waiting for a sale, it's more than worth the paltry $6 GOG are asking for it; this is a classic game you will never regret purchasing.

Simply a great game

You know that feeling? The one where you realize after a couple of hours that you are playing a truly great game? That's the feeling I had playing Nox. Its one of the games I remember from this era. It has story, mood, gameplay, graphics, etc. - the full package. It holds up remarkably well. Get it, play it, love it.

An aRPG worth checking out

I played this back when Westwood was still around, and with some changing and fiddling of settings, the GoG version works just as well as it did back in the day. For this, I'd give it 4 out of 5 only because it's not "install and play" capable. While this is my first review, the reason for it is because I recently became aware of a project called "OpenNox". It's a community created update that changes very little to the overall game, but makes it "Install, copy over, and play" capable. It also restores server capabilities, and there's even a few people online in open servers. Blew me away, and was thrilled to see it. This game, along with Doom, started my gaming hobby. All of this aside, assuming that you're curious about the game as a whole before buying. It's an over all great aRPG. The story has a bit of the good old Westwood humor, but is still serious enough to still be a story. There over all are three stories at the start, but all three stories converge at a point for the same ending. Depending on what class you pick, you go through that classes story and that classes starting "city". And depending on which you pick, there are different allies and enemies. Warriors and Wizards hate each other, and Conjurers are mostly chilling on the sidelines. Online play can be done one of two ways. Either in PvP arena's that can be anything from death matches, capture the flag, king of the hill, or even last man standing. Or, you can do a "Quest", which is a series of generated PvE levels that to my knowledge, go up indefinitely. While there is respawning, it has its own "hard core" mechanic with there being a limited amount of lives. You can buy more lives at shops, but they're a pricy 50,000 gold. This was always my favorite way to play, as it was easy and fun making friends and going on "Adventures" with them. So if you have $10 sitting around and are looking for something to play. This is a great one that can still be played online with a quick update, today.

fun, easy to get into

I had a hankering for a nostalgic rpg and tried to get Ultima vii running, got tired of the hassle and loaded nox instead. ran perfect right from the start and the rest was easy goodness fun. first time play thru, no nostalgic glasses. played as conjurer Pros: excellent voice acting, joanna cassidy voiced hecubbah and did a fantastic job of manically laughing at you the whole way. beautiful lush landscapes, all hand drawn, great animations and spell effects. Many different spells to try out, easy inventory, secrets to find, can play as three classes each with their own diff spells. great music, many different levels with different environments. you can charm monsters, summon monsters or just bash their heads in. different armor sets do different things. looting and the list goes on. Cons: looting got a bit tiresome as you just collect the same armor types to replace ones broken by use. which brings me to durability issues, stores are few and far betw long dungeons, armor is constantly being used up, costs to repair are very high. to afford keeping a high resistance set i had to resort to ferrying loot back to store to sell repeatedly as you cant carry it all. you have 2 slots for weapon switching, i used one for melee other for range, but to conserve durability or arrows you had to manually switch out to a 3 cheap bashing weapon which got old. playing as a magic wielder was tiresome too as your mana pool is drained by just 2-3 spells so you end up running back to mana recharge spots over and over in order to combat. as for glitches, quick save often fails so you have to go into the menu and save manually or else repeat game time since last save. all of this makes me rethink playing it again as another class all those cons above are not as bad as they seem, overall the game is very fun, pleasant.
