Slightly below average PNC adventure

As a point-and-click (PNC) goes, it's a little below average overall. The story helps to make this worth playing, and it's the sort of game you can knock out in maybe 3-6 hours depending on how long you spend on each bit. The controls aren't that great, but also aren't terrible. There are a few real-time sequences that are fairly terrible (as per the norm in PNC games), but thankfully most of the game is not real-time. It's the first person view where you click an arrow to move to an adjacent screen, meaning there are a set number of maximum areas you can actually explore. This is both good and bad. The background scenes are actually pretty nice, but a lot of it simply ends up as dead space (for example, the entire village has quite a few screens you can walk through, but very few things you can actually interact with). There are lots and lots of "dead" items that simply serve no purpose. The real issue with them is that most of the time they won't disapear after they've fulfiled their task, so you're left with the confusion of "what do I still need to try?". There also aren't really any "inventory-combining" items, meaning you don't click on one and drop it on another to "combine" them, as is the case with most PNC's. The puzzles are all pretty good actually, though a couple stumped me and I had to look up a hint. Thankfully they are mostly intuitive. The primary mechanic of the game is you switching between your true self and impersonating your brother. This isn't a spoiler as it says it right in the game's description. Anyway, this is a pretty refreshing mechanic and leads to some interesting gameplay. However, I feel it was also underutilized. Most of the game you spend the time dresed as your brother, and there is very little to do as yourself. It is interesting that dialogue and a few scenes will change depending on which one you are currently dressed as. My final thoughts: the game ranks for me around 2.5 to 3 stars, maybe like a 2.8 or so.

So disappointed at the end

Could have been a great game, but for some reason the devs think you are meant to suffer instead of playing and solving a mistery. The timed puzzle at the end just killed all fun. Very bad design choice. I will not try again for the 3rd time, I am not that interested in the ending any more. Shame.

Peak comfy

This is one of the best point & click adventures in first person that I've ever played. The puzzles are really fun, no pixel hunting, beatiful scenarios (albeit few) and, unlike the first two Dracula games, no need for guides or walkthroughs. The only issue are the voice actors, they are awful but other than that I totally recommend this game.

Nostradamus: The Last Prophecy

Nostradamus: The Last Prophecy (2007) didn’t have a big budget. Released in 2007 the graphics aren’t fantastic compared to what came out that year; Assassin’s Creed (2007) being a good example Also, due to the game having a limited open world field it does feel like the game has a lack of ambition at times although if you originally bought this game via Masteronic’s Mysteries Through Time collection it’s by far the better game on that DVD. The music by Ludovic Sagnier nicely mixes both classical and contemporary styles. In all, The Last Prophecy is not the best adventure game ever made, but an average one, a ‘good’ average one. Its budget shows, but some level of competence and creativity is there. Be warned, you’ll get stuck quite a bit, the dice mini-game is unnecessary on so many levels, and while walkthrough guides are available online, I found I had to rely on more than one to help me. Please note I ran the game on a fairly standard computer, and the game felt slow, which is odd considering it’s an older game. An anti-climactic ending may also leave people confused. One of Kheops Studio’s best games, and while that’s my assumption, you don’t need to be Nostradamus to predict that is probably true for most.

Playing synphony on a whistle

I played excellent Journey to the Moon from Kheops, first. And then this one. Perhaps the game has a good story and good non-animated graphics. Historical contents is a value as well. But human character rendering and voice acting is terrible. I found Madeleine so irritating that had to mute. The game is too ambitious for technical capabilities. It feels clumsy and botched, not boring, no, no, no...regretting rather. I played it as a chore. Didn't finish, as I couldn't put planet Venus in the right place and was so uninterested that didn't bother to check how to fix a bug. For the negligible price it's not worthless. And I'm the kind of person which think that free is often not the right price, they should pay you.
