Broken beyond recognition

I love original game. A lot. I play it on wine all the time even after all this time. When i've found out that Enchanced Edition is native for Linux i've immediately jumped for it, waited for first discount and bought it. I knew, that fresh games are bug prone, especially now. But i'm writing it in 2021! It's been over 2 years from premiere! And yet... Game hangs on startup exactly every second startup. And it's not your friend normal "alt+f4 to stop program" hanging. It's "i'm listening to everything you try to do with keyboard, but decide to ignore it". Sending SIGTERM? Who needs that. Without SIGKILL you cant stop this monster. And this is only beginng. Fullscreen is totally broken. That is probably why, developer just removed "fullscreen" option from menu. I'm not joking. This game has no in-game option to change to fullscreen. Official way to do it is by changing configuration file. And then you will find out, that your mouse clicks in different place, than it actually is. This, and many more bugs. 2 years after premiere. And we still did not actually start game... ...And maybe it's better? I've managed to do it, and only thing that awaited me there was more of "your mouse clicks in different place it is", "we blocked print-screen button, so you have more problems requesting refund" and many others. TLDR: Stay away from this dumpster fire. It's horribly broken, expensive and even after that, brings almost nothing over Diamond Edition.

Not an upgrade, but it's still NWN.

I own the original boxed NWN from 2002, and boxed Diamond later after, and Diamond on GoG. I have always loved NWN. This is still NWN, and includes Diamond, and still worthy of a decent rating. Hence 4 stars. But if you already have Diamond Edition, and it works on your computer, this is 2 stars, it's really not an upgrade. The new lighting effects typically look worse, and if you have an old/weak computer, will destroy performance. Really they are tacky, and overdone, and the don't enhance, they just exaggerate what is already there. Visuals enhancements: -1 star. There are surprisingly no real UI fixes. Not even a new font for higher resolutions. All there is an option to do an integer multiple upscale on the UI, which makes it better but soft and blurry anyway, and too big for 1080p. Desperately needs a 1.5 scale. How hard would that have been? How hard would a new higher resolution font have been? UI enhancements: -1 star. Bottom Line: If you don't have NWN. It's worth it. You get EE and Diamond Edition. If you already have the Diamond Edition and it's working fine, there is pretty much nothing here for you.

Nothing but broken promised from Beamdog

Disclamer: I already own this on Steam, I don't intend to purchase it again just to become a verified owner. Back when Beamdog informed the community they would fix up NWN1 the news was welcomed. They were asked if backward (NWN1 1.69) compatibility - they said yes. Then they changed network protocols and broke backward compatibility. One promise broken. They were asked is there any call-home or DRM embedded. They said no there isn't. Then they added in a DRM that essentially phones home to Beamgod. (Use wireshark to see for yourself) Another promise broken. I can go on and on but Beamdog has a tendency to break promises and has split the NWN community over the decisions that they have made.

An overpriced re-release of a good game

I'm a very long-time owner of a NWN Diamond Edition box. The game itself is unique, providing gaming opportunities that are unsurpassed to this day. Diamond Edition, now unavailable to purchase because of greed and hubris, earns 5 stars without much consideration, but so called "enhanced" edition, by its own merit, can earn one, two at best. The price is a valid part of the game's experience. In my eyes the scarce improvements EE offers, lack of premium modules - free in DE - abundant bugs and snail-speed development do not justify doubling the price. Removing the alternative that was the cheaper Diamond Edition adds an insult to the injury - it was confirmed that it was solely Beamdog's choice to do so. Graphical improvements are meager. Cheap shaders and filters that are indistinguishable from the original, or even make it worse, like depth of field effect. The showcased new models look like they're made of plastic, not coming even close to what the community has done. Abundance of bugs is confirmed by constant stream of reports and negative steam revievs. It is a definite downgrade over the original, not justified by any improvements. The upside is that they are indeed being corrected (albeit slowly), but any self-respecting developer would fix it during the testing. So-called community endorsement isn't complete. Several single-player models require work to even make them compatible. Some are lost forever with DE unavailable. Beamdog has claimed that making DE and EE users play together is impossible, but the Sinfar server developer has made it a reality. This is an example of dishonesty I wished to point out. The upnotes I have to point out are toolset additions, a reason to buy for many. Are these new tools worth the price? Is it acceptable to just throw them at the community and indirectly tell them to make their own game with them, though? It's a question one has to answer himself. I think this game might be worth to purchase in five years.

False Advertising

The description above states "Backwards Compatibility: Works with save games, modules, and mods from the original Neverwinter Nights. A galaxy of community created content awaits." After buying this today (I thought it was maybe worth $7). I find that none of my old save games from Diamond Edition can be imported. Buyer beware.
