Neverwinter Nights series made me a game dev!

I think it's my favorit video game (same level as Baldur's Gate 1 & 2). A really good story with really interesting NPCs. A main character wich evolve in the word (from "farmer" to "lord" with a castle to manage). I think it's THE game I was the most extecting on GoG ! So sad the GoG version is english only. The french version is missing form me :( .

I don't understand or remember how I had managed to play this game when it came out. The Companion system is terrible and idiotic, worst than NWN 1. The amount of micromanagement and frustration of the controls is tedious and agonizing. Somehow I played this game and finished it years ago, but just doing the village section was frustrating the other night was terrible. Constantly having to change the damn camera mode since you can't manage your entire party (moving them) when their puppet mode is on considering how useless the A.I. is. The select all mode doesn't let you rotate the camera, but you can have them all selected. The camera that can rotate doesn't allow you to select your entire group, just really stupid design decisions for a 3d game. The camera system breaks this game, makes it so frustrating that, I just uninstalled it and said fuck it. NWN 1's camera mode etc was better than this didn't have to constantly shift mode to be able to do everything. Party system with the camera makes this game more tedious than it needs to be.

I remember loving this game when it came out. I went to replay with my copy on Steam and holy Moses is it TERRIBLE. I don't remember the camera being so bad, but most of the camera control options in the options menu don't even seem to work properly regardless of which mode was chosen. There are worse bugs in the opening hour than I remember throughout my whole playthrough back in 2007 (the mage in the opening village sent me off on an unfinishable quest because apparently I had a character die in the intro, but never found out until 30 minutes later?) I have over 80 hours logged on Steam between the original campaign and Mask of the Betrayer, but could not stand the horrid AI and controls in the Platinum edition. I feel like something got changed with a patch during one of the expansions and just made everything worse. Although now that I think about it, I remember beating MotB and the game crashing on the deathblow to the final boss - so I never actually got to see the ending. 10 years later, I guess that memory makes a lot more sense to me now, thinking I wanted to replay this game.

One of the best RPGs despite it pushing you into a storyline.
