EYE 2: 40k Doomaloo
I think there's a misunderstanding as to what this game is. It isn't AAA, and it isn't Doom 40k. This is another crazy (and somewhat janky) French game made by a smaller studio. It isn't a full-blown looter-shooter, the primary purpose of the looting is to dole out the weapons and gear over time. EYE dna is all over it. From augments and level design, to how side missions work, it should be a bit familiar to EYE players. Doom had only a little influence on this. The story is better than most reviews say, maybe they're used to Sony-slop? Every weapon is fun to use (except shotguns seem really bad against refactor shields). The levels are very cool, and there is enough enemy variety that you'll want to use your augments, grapple, and weapon customization to deal with them differently. Side note: the elemental effects are buffs only, they do not make the weapons worse against other defenses like Borderlands 2. Voice acting is pretty good too. Most of the weirdness comes in with inventory, and the music or ambience. You can only access your inventory in a couple of spots in the whole game and not on demand. And space is limited. The music sometimes feels like it's just missing. Like, the hub level has almost no sounds or music. Big disappointment when EYE had great music and ambience everywhere. This game is great when accepted for what it is and not what it's expected to be.
