What Battletech could be.
Do you like MECH's (tick) Do you like Turn based mechanics (tick) Do you like lots of Strategy and upgrading said MECH's (tick) Do you like well balanced games . (tick) Well this is the game for you. I still have the disk for circa 1995 because its just so damn good. And the intro not bad either. 10/10 5 stars

Classic hex-based mech-based TBS.
I spent hundreds of hours on this as a child. The 3D models and wireframes of the mechs blew me away and the ways you could customise, build and design around your available mechs and missions was a whole new type of freedom compared to other TBS I had played at the time. Hell even now there aren't many games similar to Cyberstorm in degree of customisation and depth. In game battles involve height and terrain, crouching behind cover when appropriate, managing shield power and facing scouting out enemy forces and - if you're wise - practising divide and conquer to pit 8 or less warmachines against entire bases, or to protect your miner mechs as they scoop up much needed resources to further research and improve your force. Most missions involve combat but objectives are varied, and it's more about putting you in a variety of scenarios than anything else. Pilot skills are specialised and each Bioderm has it's own skill tree and other factors such as their tendency to dissolve into a pile of goop. You even grow a little attached and sigh softly as you recycle one past it's use-by date. Yes your pilots have use-by dates. If you didn't get by the somewhat rambly diatribe above, I think this is a superlative TBS and, while the resolution may be a bit eh by modern standards, the core mechanics have aged fine and will give you plenty of fun. I really shouldn't be spending even this much but it's very definitely good value for money. P.S. Alt + right-click on the derm portraits, when you're in the vats. If I remember right. Might be alt + left-click.

Best game of its type ever made
I think this is the oldest game I own that I still play on a semi regular basis. The sequal was disappointing but this game is nearly flawless. The original game won't run on modern hardware, it has a check for avaliable disk space that overflows, although there is a fan patch to fix it. I'm still impressed by how much gameplay and depth of simulation this game cramed into miniscule hardware. The actual game mechanics are much deeper than modern turn based mech combat titles like battletech, but there was no lag even on 90's machines. For example the ammount of cover a target has is caluclated based on the acutal shape and height of any obsticles including units between the attacker and defender, and you are shown a profile of the target with any obstructions. Learning curve is probably a little steaper than modern gamers are used to, and even knowing what I'm doing the first few missions are usually the hardest when your bioderms (pilots) are completly incompetent and your hercs are armed and armored with wet noodles. The game gets a little repetitive as you go on, there are small modifiers based on the planet you are fighting on but only a few different mission types. Unit custimazation is good and there are a good variety of enemies and an ok ai opposing you. Graphically the game is nothing fancy which shouldn't be a supprise given its age, but its still adaquate to enjoy its wonderful gameplay. Presentation and story wise you can tell this game is old, but it still has great fluff and excellent game play and you can enjoy 30v30 giant robot combat with no lag on any computer that can run your os.

Oh my God...You did it.
I grew up with this game. Me and my cousin used to play this when it was currently sold on shelves. We got into the universe, the lore, everything. To us, it's a priceless piece of art. Of course, your mileage may vary, but if you want a pretty solid turn-based strategy game, you can't go wrong here. Thank you, GOG, for putting the games up that really matter.

An early favorite..
I loved this game because it's kinda simple but complicated at the same time, The mech fighting is awesome, the graphics i still like to this day and it's just one of those games i kept in my collection since the 90's like Total annihilation and even deadlock 2. My personal hope is these games will continue to run in windows 11 and let's be honest, windows 12, 13, 14 etc. Come on, Give it a go, i know you want to. ;)
