MM8 is very good. GOG makes it unusable
Software from GOG keeps crashing and won't launch. Love the game, Can't stand that I paid for software that won't work!

An uneven experience
While M&M VIII is not considered the black sheep of the latter years of the series like IX is, it's certainly one of the games that truly shows its age. While some interesting features were added, most of them are a bit half-baked (racial classes) and generally don't make up for the lost of content, sense of free-roam exploration and cohesion that its two predecessors had. In my opinion of this engine-trilogy, M&M7 is the sweet spot. 6's enemy count is out of control, like some sort of stress test, while 8's spread is a bit meager outside of the unicorn forest. There's fewer areas than in the previous games, very little dichotomy or in the way of path choices, and very little in the way of new music or enemy sprites. The fifth character helps with the gear carrying, but it's mostly a crutch due to the poor skill spread and lack of multiple class-ups. I wouldn't recommend this one until after at least 6 and 7 are exhausted, and by then you'll probably have had enough retreating and firing bows for one lifetime. Mediocre features, story and content don't stop Day of the Destroyer from doing its job, but it's a half-assed job it does.

One of the best original Open World RPGs
This installment is not going to be as fun for everyone, but it has some of the most original elements of the entire series. The game is fairly easy compared to the previous two which seem to use the same engine. The aesthetics of the game are somewhat less appealing than it's prequels, MM6 and MM7; the dungeons and world are also smaller, but it's difficult to beat the overall sense of epic fantasy thats provided without overloading on caricature fantasy with exaggerated phenotypes slathered in special effects for a million buffs such as in the Ubisoft might and magic world has become. Although the 3DO might and magic world goes from neophytes beating on goblins to heroes flying around in the sky, it will feel authentic and down to earth compared to today's generic, cumbersome, cluttered austentatious tacky World of Warcraft ripoffs. You will have the most unique selection of classes and races and can change both the number and type of characters in your party. This makes the game more focused on developing your characters vs exploring and allows you to choose how much of a challenge you want. Ever want to go it alone? Now you can attempt to beat the game solo, or with up to 5 characters. This game currently lacks the availability of mods which the previous two games had. If you're familiar with how to extract files and tinker with it, you can adjust how the items look and how tough enemies are to provide more challenges and rewards. For example, I like to severely limit how long the "fly" spell can be cast and since I like to play with one character at a time, I also like to change the availability of certain skills. Be sure to check online for the 'mouse look patch' and other tweaks on Greyface's Might and Magic website to experience the game more fluidly and without as many bugs.

Almost as good as best one
My top favorite RPG was MM7, at first MM8 was so experimental (dragons, trolls, minotaurs, vampires, etc.) but i tried to play it with human only group (cleric, necromancer and knight), and it was almost good as its predecessor.
