Notre liste des améliorations apportées à ce jeu :
I had the pleasure of actually never playing this until a few years ago. Simply a blast. The game is well crafted. It has A LOT of character with the portraits and voice overs. You see they used the development staff as the portraits dressed up in medieval style and I absolutely love it. Some of the stuff they say is hilarious. The gameplay is excellent AS LONG AS you get the basic mouse mod for it. Its a doungeon crawler with a huge overworld map to explore. Very challenging and you should look up good party mix. The dungeons are gigantic and contain traps and puzzles. The magic includes everything you would expect. Overall the game is a must have!
VI and VII are two of the very first RPGs I played. Since this was back during the primary school I didn't understand much and had to use a guide most of the time. Even with it, it took me and my sister two years to finally finish VI (properly, since this game had two possible endings and first time we kind of accidentally triggered the bad one :D).
What to say. It may be old, it may be clunky by today standards, it may be illogical or utterly unhelpful at some places, but those flaws are easilly surpassed by the incredible amount of immersion you get if you just overlook them and enjoy the game.
VI, despite its age, is "almost open world(" ( think large interconnected maps with separately loaded interiors ) in full 3d (you can use Fly spell, even in combat), there is large variety of monsters and items, shops have opening hours, store keepers get grumpy when you don't buy anything, ships and stables have weekly schedule, your party members can (and will) get tired, scared, weak, poisoned, cursed, old, insane, dead and eradicated, your armor and items can break, there is a sort of pilgrimage granting permanent bonuses if you visit the proper shrine in proper month and much more, but finally, this game also sports what is possibly the largest dungeon in any RPG made to this date... and you can call down rain of meteors on whole hordes of enemies.
VII took all that, added different races to your party and more diversified classes (only some can reach GM level in some skills), alchemy, more kinds of enemies, ID of monsters and also Archmage - quite enjoyable card game you can play in taverns across the world for money and artifact, if you win in all of them.
If you don't mind old-school, this series, especially parts V through VIII are still one of the best RPGs ever made.
Since these games seem to be divisive I'd first point out that if you've never played them, your enjoyment will hinge on if you love old school blobber RPGs. M&M1 was a fresh game alongside Bard's Tale and Wizardry, and each of these had pros and cons over each other but they've all definitely aged.
Recently my friend and I did a "revenge" play on the first game since we never beat it as kids. It's definitely the weakest of the series but worth looking at if you want to see where design tropes in CRPGs started. But you'll need to take notes and make maps if you don't use a FAQ. MM2 really picked up with smarter design and much more colorful graphics, an auto-map, and more descriptives. It's probably still a little too retro for a lot of people, but it's very rewarding if you get into it.
MM3, 4, and 5 are the most well-remembered games and I won't spend too much time explaining. These are the games you're here for, probably.
The story in 1-5 is well in the background, and is a chaotic hodge-podge of fantasy and sci-fi with more Star Trek references than you'd think possible. It's also clearly made up as it goes along, but is rewarding to watch come together.
MM6, 7, and 8 are the next generation. Grid-based movement is tossed in favor of something closer to FPS controls, though there's still a rough hybrid mode that sort of simulates turn-based combat (this was a moment in gaming, they tried the same thing in X-Com Apocalypse.) Environments are in 3D while enemies are pixelly sprites. The story wrapped up in 5 is gone, though often referenced. There's still a big world, though it's now chunked into sections that both help define difficult areas but also makes things a bit more confusing to navigate. The auto-note system is now very robust. Dungeon designs are often incredible.
And yet these later games do wear the player down. Bigger resource requirements bring out the repetitiveness, and I never finished any of 6-8. I try once in a while, and one day...
I have been playing these games since the very first Might and Magic and they all were huge games upto the 9th in the series.. I still have all of these games on CD. My favorite's are 6 and 7 the story was awsome that it also involved the story from the 2nd strategy game Heros of Might & Magic. Gaining your own land and doing up your castle was cool and chossing to side with evil or good work with Roland or Archibald. Addictive little tavern games and all sorts of fun things to find like Laser guns :)
I would buy this pack in an instant if i knew if 3 and 4 had speech packs on.. I had one limited edition version that i can't find again that had speach added. Can anyone tell me if this pack has this option included?
If you're an old school guy that remembers life before hard drives, having to switch out 5-1/4" floppy disks, and loves spending more than an hour rolling the perfect stats, this is the game series for you. I played the 1st three of these way back when they first came out. usually, going back to play these games 30 years later is disappointed by the simplistic graphics, the lack of interaction, and not being able to even see your own characters, I have to say that I'm having just as much, if not more fun than way back when.
