Impresions (I played the other 2 games)

I liked M:Exodus better than the 2 past games in the series, but I like games with open world design. This game also has levels. Some of those levels are claustophobic corridors just like the levels of the previous games, and others are open maps. You could argue in one of those maps you start in one tip and only makes sense travel to the other tips, but still is a map. The true open maps let you explore and if you are thorough you'll find the best improvements for your weapons. Also will find settlements where you can "chat" (you don't talk) with locals or deal with foes. Don't hold your breath for Ins, Stores or minigames. The friendly settlements are tinny. You get to drive vehicles at times. The first one I drive I got stuck quite a while 'cos I didn't know how to get out. It's the same key you used to get in, but the other actions you can do in this first vehicle are explained to you. The selection of mutants could be bigger. In general I expected a longer game, I did enjoy my time with it though. The saves systems is a little different than before. You have slots, each slot allows you to keep a different play-through. When you load the game at the main screen, you get inside that slot and and can't save or load in other slot any more. Inside the slot you have just one manual save, and 3 autosaves. Every time you save manually, you overwrite your previous manual save. Each time the game saves automatically, the older of your 3 autosaves is lost. This system worked well for me most of the time. You only need to be mindful about when and where manually save. The story is OK. It's not mind blowing but is good enough to keep you interested. I got the good ending playing in normal at the first try without googling. I feel at least in normal the game is more forgiving than before. There are littler to no mods for this game.

Overrated in every aspect

I dont know how "metro:exodus" got such good ratings. The great and atmospheric graphics aside, this game is at best mediocre in every other aspect. The story is overall ok, but it is driven by extremely annoying characters and aweful dialogues presented with a fake russian accent. The cutscenes are so damned long, and these boring characters just wont stop talking. It feels like they could have chopped them down to half the length without losing anything (except some blant dramaturgy). The "open" world is a nice scenery, but exploration is somewhat not very entertaining. In fact, this feels more like a rail-shooter than anything else, "press E for awesome" is strong in this one. Yes, there are sometimes different approaches to accomplish a target, but all feel scripted. Stealth, shooting, the cutscenes, everything feels unpolished and I dont know how some people are drawn into this by the atmosphere. Its not completely bad though, just terribly overrated.

Often it rates a 5, until all the bugs..

Storyline was well done for the most part. The landscape and environments were beautiful. What I had a hard time getting over [to the point of ditching the game at serveral times] was one hard freeze after another requiring a reboot. There was no rhyme or reason for this and I tried every so called "solution" from installing DX10 to changing this setting and that setting, but to no avail. It eventually settled down but what a way to ruin a game. I have a non-overclocked system with robust components and latest video drivers, so there is no excuse for all the abrupt disruptions I encountered. Someone dropped the ball on maintenance and upkeep with this game. The other less annoying factor was the fact that despite changing my keybindings for forward, back, etc, I had to keep resetting to the defaults to be able to move on from some redundant and superfluous scenes - like all the frigging cigarette breaks! For a story about a group of people trying to keep their health in a world threatened by radiation and sparse resources, leaving them reliant on having an exceptional amount of stanima, you would think smoking would be one of the first things to be discarded in the ashes of the past. But not this crew, even the heroine of the story who ends up displaying symptoms of TB continues to smoke while spitting up blood. I understand that smoking is still accepted in certain cultures but in game play it can be a real annoyance when you are offered a smoke break every so often and are not given the ability to bind a key to "No thanks, I don't smoke." The Two Colonels turned out the to be more of an interactive short movie than an actual game. The first part is filled with some rather mundane tunnel cleaning that was rather monotonous . Sam's Story was just more of the same from Exodus.

Bon jeu, mais...

- "Metro Exodus" est un FPS qui se place dans plusieurs lieux à explorer. Vraiment très beau en général (décors, nature, animaux/monstres...) même si certaines textures sont plutôt moyennes, les personnages ont une animation faciale moyenne eux aussi, et les armes ont une bonne dynamique. Bref, c'est propre dans l'ensemble au niveau du graphisme, avec un cycle jour/nuit bien sympathique. - Le gameplay reste globalement le même; on y garde encore nos marques. Mais Artyom est toujours incapable de nager, et ne parle toujours pas... - L'ambiance est plus vivante dans ce troisième volet, du moment que l'on est dans le train (on s'assoie pour "discuter" mais surtout apprendre à connaître les personnes qui sont avec nous, boire un coup et fumer, etc...) mais dehors... c'est un peu trop vide... Heureusement, la narration et l'histoire sont toujours au top-niveau, avec des décisions lourdes de conséquences. La bande-son quant à elle, est juste excellente et immersive; surtout avec un bon système de son. Toutefois, je préfère "Metro 2033 Redux" et "Metro: Last Light Redux". Dans ce troisième volet, il me manque cette ambiance oppressante est sombre qui est bien moins présente ici. De fait, on perd ce que l'on a connu de la série. Au final, "Metro Exodus" reste un très bon jeu, surtout pour les fans de la série (avec deux fins possibles).

A game worth playing

This is great gameplay and storytelling IMHO. The setting and the world around your character feels alive, especially in the main story campaign. The setting is not some huge open world map mindlessly peppered with fetch quests. The level design provides you with enough freedom to explore and experiment without distancing yourself from the main story. This is high quality over quantity. All three stories (main story & 2 dlc) are worth seeing through to the end. A lot of love and care went into crafting this post apocalyptic world and it was a pleasure to ride it out.
