Runs horribly
This game runs at an unbelievably choppy frame rate in my Windows 10 machine. Some people have stated that the emulation is just reproducing the slow down present in the originals, but that is surely not true. No arcade nor old console port of this game runs this poorly. Do not buy as no one will find this enjoyable. Hopefully you can buy the PSX, Saturn or Neo Geo CD ports of this game.

Better left to the Arcades
These might be good games to grab your quarters in the Arcade, but as a PC experience they're poor compared to what else is out there. Even as arcade games, Metal Slug II is the best of the lot with Metal Slug rough around the edges and Metal Slug III over-wrought, too self referential and just too damn hard. Metal Slug X is just a re-hash of II with some different enemies but the same environment. Maybe pick it up in a sale, and play it just for the sake of it. But- if you want a PC platformer with action then I think you ought to look elsewhere for an actual good experience.

Metal Slug 2 is a 4/5 girlfriend something short-term but maybe... Long-term down the line. Metal Slug X is a 5/5 girl... girlfriend... Did... Did... Metal Slug X GOBBLE and GURGLE our shafts!? Metal Slug X is just the definitive way to PLAY Metal Slug 2. It's just one of a kind and I can honestly say this GAME has NO CONS. Unlike Metal Slug 2... Metal Slug X has BETTER MENUS and ONLINE MULTIPLAYER. Although the lobby is kinda DEAD. P.S. Just send me a request and I'll help you get the SOCIAL TIME achievement. :)

Terrible port.
The short of it is that this has "legacy" slowdown which just shouldn't exist anymore. If any modern console game showed up on PC and had technical issues because it was a dump of a console game and not enough was done to hone it for PC hardware, it would be eaten alive. This game is a good game from the a "retro" era, however shortcomings due to "retro" technology should get ironed out when something is released on superior technology and a price tag is attached. So despite liking the core game, I know realistically what it is, and I have to hit not recommended. What's especially weird given all this is that one of the major improvements X made on 2 (it's the same game being upgraded) was that it removed the slowdown - but in this version, the slowdown is back, so it isn't even legacy slowdown here. It's just a poor port. Not as good as Metal Slug 3, but still a good game. Just like the other versions on Steam, I wish there was an option to disable the Legacy slowdown - have it as a toggle for those who want it and those who don't. This is mostly a DLC pack for Metal Slug 2, but since DLC wasn't around in those days and most companies weren't doing the lock-on cartridge thing... it was buy the new game for your NeoGeo, or buy a new arcade cabinet. For some reason, the Steam and GOG versions of Metal Slug 2 don't have online multiplayer. X does however.
