Neither here nor there

Allied Assault sits in a weird place between proper retro FPS games and a more modern FPS experience. It's far from the Id-Software-pioneered classic gameplay and level design, and instead opts for slower, more "realistic" depiction of war with a focus on cinematic set-pieces over engaging or responsive gameplay. Ultimately it feels like a generic corridor shooter with all of the tropes and downsides associated with this design, and because it's it's such an early implementation, I feel like there are dozens of better examples of what it's trying to do. It's a bit of a hassle to make run nicely too: the native max resolution is abysmal, FOV is vomit inducing, mouse sensitivity is somehow all gunky, and something's off with the framerates or -timings. Partially you can fix these via the config file, but almost none of the solutions are seamless (except FOV). These problems combined with sub-par gameplay design make Allied Assault just far too difficult to appreciate.

Wow! What a game! There is nothing like a good WWII shooter. I created a GOG account specifically to play this. The gameplay is very similar to the first Call of Duty. It's also very hard on higher difficulties, so if you're new to the game, you might want to start on easy. My sole issue with this game is that there is no proper widescreen support. You have to do some configuration to get the game to fit your monitor resolution. PCGamingWiki is useful in situations like this. Aside from that, the game is excellent, and I highly recommend it if you enjoy old-school FPS games.

Only one of the 3 games can be played.

Unfortunately, the two add-ons don't work. Neither Spearhead nor Breakthrough. The main game is playable, nothing more.
