Best Game played for 25 years!

This must be the game me and my brother played most from 1994 till 2019s.The graphics are way dated...but the gameplay with tons of options and spells can suck you in for good!The major difference from other strategy games at the time was its battles! in my opinion has the best battle system than any other game including later heroes of might and magic strategy games !This was a game ahead of its time! Still playable today!Because is the Gameplay that matters and not the graphics!

Wonderful game, except for Slytherine...

This is still one of my favorite strategy games. 14 races to choose from with their own strengths plus 5 different schools of magic means the game can fit anyone's playing style, whether you like to berserker rush your opponent with hordes or bide your time learning the secrets to summoning unstoppable monsters. I hate to see it in the hands of Slytherine. There are even more bugs than I remember from playing off of floppy disks in the 90's. Crashing, freezing, a hero with impossible stats, the flying unit mechanics are buggy, and more. There's no quick email you can send from the useless publisher's launcher. You have to sign up for their forums. It's still fun, but expect some inconveniences.

Still the Champ of 4x Fantasy games

I bought this game new back in 1994 and have regularly played it since then as it has the perfect blend of big picture grand strategy and engaging combat which is almost its own game. Sure the graphics are dated but they are well done and fit in with the current pixel art revival. But the core of the game is the spell casting and how it effects the overland and combat and its wonderfully balanced now with the community patches. Some are complaining about Slitherine and maybe for good reason but eh they did fix the games core issues of poor ai and stability. This latest version of MoM is the best yet and will keep you playing for 'just one more turn' till you look up and see another few hours have gone by.

MOM: caster of magic

After playing the original Master of Magic for many years during my childhood I found the experience in ‘caster of magic’ very lacking. Play balance is very bad. On harder difficulties the AI always attacks your weakest cities relentlessly. Automatically knowing which one is least defended. Enemy units spawned from nowhere with no time for the player to do anything about it, whether it be enemy wizard units or rampaging monsters. The AI in this mod and maybe from the base game basically cheats non-stop.

Two fair warnings:

a) Master of Magic's enemy wizard AI is terrible, so to make up for it the AI will cheat like a 'monkey fighter'. Winning on the higher difficulty levels far more often relies on abusing unbalanced spells or exploiting AI quirks than it does actual strategy. b) The game's HUGE variety of spells allows for so many tactics to play around with that you'll be on at least your dozenth game before you even start to care.
