Magic Carpet™ 2: The Netherworlds

Same engine as the first game with lots of little improvements that make the experience better for the player. There's a much more engaging story with a map, save game structure that makes more sense and is easier to use, improved menu for spell selection, more varied levels (underground and night modes), new enemies and lots of new weapons/spells, plus the game seems to be more stable overall and have dealt with some of the tech problems the original had. Crashes can still be an issue in high res mode. Still one of the most original games out there, I really would like to see a modern version of this game one day.

This game gave my one of the best playing times. Its original in every way you can imagine. Its about flying a magic carpet and cast spells, fight enemy wizards and many insects enemies. I will remember this game forever. It was one of the first i bought like an original cd. I recommend it for everyone. It deserves it. Its very sad that to this day there is no remake whats so ever, and i doubt it ever be.

Hello, For a better experience: 1°) On dosboxMagicCarpet2.conf: Set "aspect" to "true". This setting should be set to true for quite every dos game that runs on 320*200. 320*200 is a non square pixel resolution, while 320/200 give 1.6, MC2 is intended to run on a 4/3 aspect ratio screen. This will obviously affect the intro and the loading screen (the CD become round instead of squashed) The main game is also affected if you don't push the "R" key (r key switch between VESA mode 101hx 640*480 8bits @70Hz and VGA mode 13hx 320*200 8bits 70Hz). the main menu is not affected at it run at 640*480. 2°) You'll get a much better music: Run a genaral midi driver on your system host and get some good soundfont designed for ms-dos era like some based on roland soundcavas 55 (SC55) or Merlin_Symphony. Set your in-game music to general midi. Some might prefer to use gravis ultra sound instead (it was a much more advanced sound card than sound blaster but was much more uncommon). But you have to install the gus patches into "C:\ULTRASND" and activate it into the .conf file. 3°) If you use dosbox staging instead of the 0.7 provided by gog, you might use some interesting shaders via in .conf file: [sdl] section: output=opengl [render] section: replace "scaler="yourscaler by "glshader = "yourshader Contrary to MC1, MC2 does take in account the real time, so you can set CPU to auto with no limits cycles, the game will not run at an unplayable enormous speed. You may be able to finish the game in about 20 hours.

I played Magic Carpet 1 in my youth. Playing Drova recently (a great pixel-art CRPG from 2024) sparked my interest in playing some old games I missed back then. With fond memories of Magic Carpet 1 I decided on Magic Carpet 2 ... and I'm having an absolute blast! Initially I had a problem with constant crashing, but switching to Dosbox Staging (portable version 0.82.0 just replacing the original Dosbox folder in the game installation directory) and playing around with CPU cycles a bit, the game runs smooth with only occasional crashes. Magic Carpet 2 offer just the right amount of challenge and variety for me (currently in level 15 of 25).

The game itself is very good, I've always played it, but it crashes a lot and since it doesn't have a current save system it's kind of frustrating, even so I play it a lot
