I bought it, because it reminded me of the good old days, when PC gaming was mysterious and new.
Oh boy did I do the right decision to purchase the game!
I bought it on sale, and I played it through in one go, about 4 hours, and I didn’t use any tutorial, the game is not hard enough to make you stuck and not easy enough to make you just speed run.
I haven’t found any other game in this time that offer this kind of dinosaur, point to klick adventure, with a good story!
If your childhood was about playing weird DOS games, or mysterious games on the PC back in the day, you will enjoy this game well.
I recommend buying this game on sale, since I bought it on sale myself....
One of my favorite games ever. It's like an old book from your childhood - maybe a bit simplistic, but incredibly heartwarming. If you loved dinosaurs as a child or still do, this game is definitely worth checking out. And the music is just divine.
The '90s had a lot of FMV games, most of which were cheesy, even back then, and have visuals that have aged like bread. This isn't quite one of those games; I was surprised at how well a lot of the visuals held up. Yes, there are lengthy video sequences when you go ANYWHERE, but to me, there's a sort of charm in that. You can also skip them by clicking, so if it's not your thing, no need to worry. This doesn't just ride on that novelty, either; while most of the puzzles aren't really that complex or challenging, the tasks are interesting to complete, and go well with the story.
You're a young prince, trying to rally all humanoid and dinosaur species together to fight against a group of what I think is more aggressive dinosaurs - it doesn't really explain that very well - but to that end, you explore different valleys, finding different groups of living beings, and convincing them to band together. Yes, you will be doing a lot of the same things (giving mushrooms to brontosauruses, giving nests to the triceratops, etc.), and some people might call that "repetitive", but I like to think of it as consistent in this case; there are new experiences to be had in each valley, to keep things fresh, but when you arrive, you at least have a basic goal in mind, and a good idea of how to go about it. What I found really neat was that each valley has an overworld map, which can be used to travel quickly, but also tells you just where you are, and how to get back to things you've already found.
The game is nobody's masterpiece, but I feel like it does a lot of unique, interesting things, and that was enough for me. I've always wanted one of these kinds of games, but didn't have a good enough computer when they were relevant, and now that I can finally play them, this did not disappoint.
I have been waiting for so long to see this game again! It was the very first CD dad bought, and nobody knew a word in English (this happening in rural Russia) so not much of an idea what was happening, and yet - it was a truly breathtaking game. It's hard to imagine now but the graphics were so innovative with the pre-rendered 3d, that family and friends gathered to watch the into movie. When I was an adult I found and played Cryo's masterpiece properly, and I must say, it still holds water. Yeah, at some point you get to repetitively build bases across the globe to fight the Tyrants, but everything else - the universe, the soundtrack, the original story, totally worth playing even now.
Sup, fellas,
First of all, thanks GOG for restoring and saving unique brilliants like this game.
I have just finished the story and I can say that it was the best game expirience for last two months. Although I played this game in 90s, but even now I felt excitement while playing the game.
Before buying you should understand that this is a classic old style adventure game with some strategic elements. So, please do not expect too much from it except the good old fashioned story, amazing music and interesting characters (Queen Warrior is my favorite).
If you missed this classic before you should try it asap.
